The Operational Risk and Resilience Associate will work closely with the Control Officer to deliver robust Operational Risk Management and enhance the firm’s Operational Resilience. This second-line role provides independent oversight, partnering with the first line of defence to identify, assess, and monitor operational and technology risks, ensure effective governance frameworks, and support vendor risk management initiatives. The role will also play a key part in embedding these risk and resilience practices across the organisation.
Duties and responsibilities:
Collaborate with the Control Officer to maintain and enhance the Operational Risk Framework and embed resilience practices across the firm
Establish and oversee centralised inventories for risks, controls, business services, and vendors to ensure effective governance and accountability
Partner with the first line of defence to identify, document, and assess risks and controls across trading, operations, and technology processes, focusing on data integrity, system reliability, and vendor dependencies
Provide independent oversight and challenge to the first line in the implementation of risk frameworks
Monitor incidents and work with the first line to determine root causes, analyse control failures, and recommend preventive actions
Monitor emerging risks, industry trends, and regulatory developments to maintain a proactive, forward-looking approach
Support the first line in conducting business impact analyses, scenario evaluations, and resilience testing aligned with regulatory expectations
Prepare high-quality reports, presentations, and materials for governance forums, risk committees, and senior management
Build strong relationships across the organisation to foster collaboration and promote a culture of robust risk and resilience management
Requirements
Experience in governance, risk, and controls within financial services (e.g., investment banking, asset management, or similar environments)
Knowledge of tools and methodologies for resilience testing and scenario analysis
Proficiency in data analysis tools (e.g. PowerBI, Tableau) and scripting languages (e.g. Python), with experience supporting risk reporting and process automation
Understanding of the trading lifecycle, including trade flows, execution, settlement processes, and associated risks
Familiarity with regulatory requirements for operational resilience, such as FCA PS21/3
Strong understanding of risk and control frameworks, including technology systems, trading operations, data integrity, and third-party dependencies
Exceptional communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to engage, influence, and build consensus with senior leaders
Highly adaptable, with the ability to prioritise effectively in a fast-paced environment, think creatively to solve problems, and collaborate across cross-functional teams
Analytical and detail-oriented, with a proactive mindset for identifying risks and recommending actionable solutions
