Team/Role Overview The Operational Risk Management (ORM) Team in Belfast is seeking to hire an Operational Risk Vice President to support its growing footprint, with a focus on Lending Operations, Cash Services, Tax Information Reporting, Balance Sheet, and Controls within the Services, Markets, Banking, International, and Client sector. This role is part of the Second Line of Defense (2LOD) and is critical in providing independent oversight, assurance, and effective challenge to the bank’s operational risk management activities. The ideal candidate will support the Senior Vice President (SVP) identifying, assessing, and mitigating operational risks, ensuring compliance with regulations and internal policies, and providing strategic guidance on risk management initiatives. You will require experience in risk management practices, strong analytical skills, excellent communication (both written & verbal), and ability to work both independently and as part of a team to be successful in this position. What you’ll do Provide independent oversight and assurance over the bank’s operational risk management framework, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and internal policies, as well as guidance on risk mitigation strategies, control enhancements, & risk reduction measures. Contribute to risk assessments and reviews of business units to identify, assess, and monitor operational risks, and to team Book of Work, prioritizing tasks effectively & deputizing for SVP, when required. Review and challenge the effectiveness of risk mitigation strategies and control measures implemented by the First Line of Defense (1LOD). Assist with the development of comprehensive risk reports, combining qualitative & quantitative data/insights, highlighting key risks, trends, and emerging issues. Analyze operational risk data to identify patterns, root causes, and potential areas of concern. Use this information to develop targeted action plans. Leverage risk assessment tools & methodologies to conduct thorough investigations into areas of concern, ensuring that tangible outcomes are achieved. Conduct root cause analysis of significant incidents and ensure that appropriate corrective actions are implemented. Monitor the effectiveness of incident management processes and recommend improvements as necessary. Build & maintain effective working relationships with Operational functions, understanding their needs, strategic priorities, challenges, & opportunities, and facilitate risk workshops, training sessions, and awareness programs to promote a strong risk culture within the bank. What we’ll need from you Solid understanding of the Operational Risk Management Framework & three lines of defense model. Knowledge of Operational Processes and underlying Policies, Procedures, Regulatory requirements is preferred. Proven analytical skills with the ability to analyze risk data, identify trends, & develop actionable insights. Demonstrable problem-solving and interpersonal skills. Strong communication and influencing skills, with the ability to articulate & present complex risk concepts. Ability to establish & maintain effective working relationships with a diverse set of stakeholders. Detail-oriented with strong organizational & time management skills, capable of managing multiple tasks & prioritizing effectively. Bachelor’s/University degree and Master’s degree preferred.
