An opportunity has come up for an Ophthalmic Specialist Nurse.

This role will be to support Emergency Ophthalmic Flow within the Trust, and the treatment and management of ophthalmic patients.

Main duties of the job

Coordinating patient Ophthalmic pathways in line with national/local targets and clinical need. Clinics to support Rapid Access clinics. Outreach and pull from the Emergency Department to support streaming of ophthalmic patients. Support Triage of emergency referrals, and the development of pathways for these patients. Ensure care programmes and pathways meet GIRFT recommendations and evidence-based practice.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

Registered Nurse/Professional and hold active registration with relevant Professional body. Degree level qualification relevant to role. Post Graduate qualification at Masters level relevant to role to demonstrate specialist clinical and leadership skills. Evidence of mandatory and statutory essential training skills, for example, Basic Life Support, manual handling, infection control, fire etc. Managerial or Leadership qualification.

Desirable

Project management/Quality improvement qualification. Restorative supervision/Professional Nurse Advocate qualification. Education/Training qualification. Advanced Clinical Practice modules at Masters level (Physical Assessment, Prescribing).

Experience

Essential

Proven experience in area of specialist knowledge and expertise. Demonstrate experience of: Quality/Service improvement, Project Management, Leadership, People Management, Innovative and inspiring leadership and clinical practice, Research or audit, Education and Training.

Desirable

NHS experience or relevant health care organisation.
