Optical Engineer

to join our Oxford-based team. As an Optical Engineer, you will contribute to the development of our optical computing product, focusing on designing, building, and testing free-space optical systems to achieve high compute performance. This role offers the opportunity to collaborate closely with a dynamic team and gain hands-on experience in advancing optical technologies. ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES Optical design and modelling of systems. System architecture development and performance testing. Prototype building and contribute to system integration (must be willing to work in a laser lab environment). Work closely with suppliers and manufacturers on optical components. Collaborate with team members to develop and optimize the complete optical computing system. REQUIREMENTS A degree in optical engineering, physics, or a related field. 3+ years of relevant industry experience. Experience with Zemax or similar ray-tracing software. Hands-on experience with free-space optical systems, including alignment and testing. Familiarity with optical devices such as LC-SLMs and DMDs. Programming skills in Python and/or Matlab. DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS Experience with optical system prototyping and new product development. Exposure to AR/VR systems, projectors, or optical switches is a big plus. Familiarity with patents, publications, or innovative research contributions.
