Job Title : Optimization Functional Test SME Work Arrangement : Hybrid (2-3 days onsite per week) Location : Wokingham, UK Duration : 6+ months Number of Positions : 1 Role Description The Optimization Functional Test SME will play a critical role in the Balancing Transformation Programme, focusing on testing and supporting the optimization algorithm for deployment in the Electricity National Control Centre (ENCC). This algorithm will be instrumental in balancing the electrical system effectively. You will collaborate with experts from IT, QA, and the business in an Agile environment, contributing to the deployment of solutions on a cutting-edge, cloud-native IT platform. Key Responsibilities Collaborate with project teams and customers on the Dispatch algorithm for the Balancing Transformation Programme. Support quality assurance and the development of modern optimization algorithms. Work closely with functional teams and business stakeholders to review and test scenarios. Conduct exploratory testing, identify defects, and document observations. Assist in developing required tools and automating testing processes for the algorithm. Key Skills/Knowledge/Experience Programming & Automation : Strong coding skills in Python and test automation expertise with Python, Java, and Selenium. Optimization Expertise : Hands-on experience solving optimization problems using various techniques, with an in-depth understanding of mathematical programming solvers (LP, QP, MIP, MILP, MIQP, MIQCP) and experience with Python-based tools like Gurobi Optimizer. Data Science : Proficient in statistical computer languages to manipulate data and extract insights from large datasets, with knowledge of data collection, preprocessing, and analysis. Other Skills : Experience developing custom data models and algorithms, and familiarity with modern software development and testing practices. Person Specification Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical/Computer Engineering or a related technical field. Strong communication, client-facing, and collaboration skills. Assertive and team-oriented, with the ability to thrive in a supportive environment.
