Riccarton High School is looking for a motivated, organised and experienced person to lead our outdoor education programme at our school-owned camp near Mt Thomas in North Canterbury. The role is fixed-term for the duration of the camp season – likely to be from mid-January 2025 to early June 2025 – approximately 4 months. This could become a recurring fixed-term role each year. Riccarton High School owns a modern outdoor education facility called Orohaki, and we are looking for the right person to help us continue to develop the programme for our Year 9 and 10 students and create an exciting outdoor education experience. The camps run from Monday to Friday each week and students participate in a range of activities such as tramping, mountain biking, and canyoning – and we have the scope to create more. We aim to have our students attending from early February 2025, so there will be time beforehand to familiarise yourself with the camp, the local area and the programme, recruit instructors to help you and train them. This start date would be negotiable based on the time needed to prepare. Responsibilities:

Preparing, managing and participating in the outdoor education programme Undertaking outdoor activities and team-building exercises with students Managing the camp instructors – including recruitment and training in the programme Maintaining and updating all risk management, health and safety and other documentation Liaising with school staff around students, the programme, camp requirements, etc. Ensuring the facilities are kept in excellent condition Developing the programme and resources Completing weekly reports to the school as well as an end-of-camp report. The person we are looking for will have experience working in or managing an outdoor education centre, leadership skills, relevant industry-based qualifications, a current first aid certificate and love the outdoors. This role will suit an energetic person who is proactive, takes the initiative, enjoys working with high school students from a variety of backgrounds and introducing them to the outdoors, is able to lead a team and has the ability to maintain a professional and personable manner at all times. In the past, this has been a live-in role, but this is not a requirement if you live in the area or wish to only stay during the week (although accommodation can be provided on-site if you decide to stay). The successful candidate will only be required during the day to run the outdoor education programme. Your application will include the following questions: Which of the following statements best describes your right to work in New Zealand? How many years' experience do you have as an Educational Leader? Which of the following First Aid accreditations do you currently hold? How many years of people management experience do you have? Do you have a current New Zealand driver's licence?
