Overall Purpose: The Fusion Technology (FT) Division utilises expertise to draw together a qualified suite of all the technologies needed to realise deployable commercial fusion power plants. Thus, enabling the development of fusion relevant technologies, from concept to demonstration in relevant environments, in the context of the whole powerplant design and delivery community. Across the Culham and South Yorkshire sites, we combine a suite of unique testing facilities and capabilities for advanced engineering and world-leading research for international and UK fusion programmes. The role of the Outreach and Communications Officer is to support the delivery of outreach programmes and activities surrounding the Fusion Technology Facility (FTF) in Yorkshire, as well as supporting the delivery of communications to the staff at FTF and arranging staff activities. This role will support UKAEA's Communications department, which is part of UKAEA's Communications, Business Development, and Innovation Division. Accountabilities:

Support the delivery of the UKAEA Outreach strategy for areas around the Fusion Technology Facility, Yorkshire. Work with the Yorkshire Outreach Manager and wider UKAEA Outreach team to develop and deliver school-based activities such as workshops, for Key Stages 1 - 3. Contribute towards the UKAEA Outreach Network, building and maintaining relationships with key stakeholders such as but not limited to, Fusion Centre for Doctoral Training, local schools, colleges, universities, and local council groups. Arrange and facilitate events, informing local residents what the FTF does and the wider work of UKAEA. Attend science festivals and exhibitions on behalf of UKAEA. Support the Communications Team as their representative at FTF - ensuring good two-way communication with staff, and helping to deliver the UKAEA internal Communications Strategy and annual work plan. Produce written content such as articles, and press releases, to be shared internally via the UKAEA channels including the intranet, as well as sharing via external platforms, ensuring the website is up-to-date and promotes the latest comms. Act as the key point of contact between the UKAEA Comms and Outreach teams and the Fusion Technology Division. Support internal and external communication during crisis and business continuity incidents at FTF. Contribute to improving best practices and quality standards within the team, division and across the organisation. Ensure your behaviour promotes the safety, health and welfare of yourself and colleagues. Promote UKAEA's values, championing a culture of equality, diversity, and inclusion. Work in accordance with UKAEA policy and undertake any other reasonable tasks or duties requested by Management. Specific Qualifications/Experience:

Essential: Extensive experience or demonstratable ability to co-ordinate activities with multiple internal and external partners. Experience of designing and delivering STEM outreach activities for schools and universities. Demonstratable experience of public speaking and presenting to a wide variety of different audiences. Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects and priorities. Able to demonstrate excellent and adaptive interpersonal and effective communication skills at different levels. Excellent verbal and written communication skills and demonstrable experience in writing copy for internal and external promotion. Good IT literacy and competency in utilising SharePoint and MS Office - Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc. Ability to use initiative to resolve queries or issues and improvements. Ability to constructively interact with a variety of stakeholders at all levels of the business. Desirable: Previous experience in a similar nuclear fusion industry role. Experience of writing press releases. Understanding of the work undertaken by UKAEA. Communications degree or demonstratable experience in this area of work.
