We are looking for newly qualified Nurses & ODPs and experienced Nurses & ODPs to join our Post Anaesthetic Care Unit Team!

Our friendly and supportive PACU department have an exciting opportunity for a passionate, patient-focused registered nurse to join the team. Working within the PACU department provides opportunities to work with Elective and Emergency specialities such as Gynaecology, Urology, Plastics, General Surgery, ENT, and Orthopaedics cases and work out of the Department - ITU, Endoscopy, and MRI.

Main duties of the job

Assessing, planning, delivering, and evaluating patient care pathways Delegation to and supervision of junior grades, unqualified, and less experienced staff Working with members of the Multi-Disciplinary Team following local protocols, trust policies, and standards Awareness of the effective management of resources within the department To participate in the provision of a safe environment for patients undergoing surgery in the department. Maintenance of one's own professional and personal standards and knowledge of current evidence-based practice/ Continuing Professional Development To participate as a trained member of the theatre, carrying out a broad range of clinical activities

Job responsibilities

Clinical Role:

Anaesthetics: Act as patient's advocate during operation. Assist anaesthetists in the administration of general, regional & local anaesthetics monitoring patients' physiological vital signs as appropriate.

Recovery: Act as patient's advocate post operation. Work without direct clinical/medical supervision to monitor patients' postoperative condition.

Scrub: Act as patient's advocate during operation. Anticipate the needs of the surgical team by provision of appropriate surgical instrumentation and equipment.

Qualifications

Essential

NMC / HCPC registration Diploma (HE) Operating Department Practice (or NVQ equivalent)

Desirable

Formal mentorship/assessment qualification e.g. completion of the Trust associate mentorship programme Supervision of Learning in the Clinical Environment (SLICE)

Skills / Abilities

Essential

Effective communication skills (verbal & written) Ability to adapt to change within working situations

Knowledge and Experience

Essential

Awareness of current professional peri-operative practice issues Own continuing professional development

Desirable

Ability to practice within more than one role of peri-operative practice
