Job Summary

Applications are invited for this Fellowship post specialising in Strabismus and Paediatric Ophthalmology. There are two posts available with a prospective start date of 1st August 2025.

Applicants are required to hold FRCOphth or equivalent and be registered with the General Medical Council.

The post is based at the Moorfields' City Road site but requires travel to Moorfields Satellite sites at Ealing and Northwick Park Hospital on a rotational basis. The post provides exposure to adult Strabismus and Paediatric ophthalmology outpatient clinics, Theatre operating lists, Toxin outpatient clinics and children's A+E. Example timetables are enclosed, but these will be subject to change depending on service requirements.

Main Duties of the Job

Provide High Quality Care to Patients The post holder must be medically qualified and maintain GMC specialist registration and hold a licence to practice. To develop and maintain the competencies required to carry out the duties required of the post. To ensure prompt attendance at agreed direct clinical care Programmed Activities. To ensure patients are involved in decisions about their care and to respond to their views. Participate in clinical audit and incident reporting. To ensure clinical guidelines and protocols are adhered to. To work collaboratively with all members of the multi-disciplinary team. Adhere to Trust/departmental guidelines on leave including reporting absence.

Job Responsibilities

The successful applicants will be exposed to a wide range of all types of ocular motility disorder and appropriate surgery. There will be wide exposure to paediatric ophthalmology including the management and treatment of retinopathy of prematurity, paediatric cataract, paediatric neuro-ophthalmology and paediatric retinal and genetic diseases.

There is extensive experience of adult motility including the use of botulinum toxin.

Some clinical sessions will take place at the Moorfields Satellite sites based outside City Road. The timetable is comprised of 8 direct clinical care sessions and 2 study/admin sessions across a Monday to Friday working week.

Person Specification

EDUCATION & QUALIFICATIONS

Essential FRCOphth or MRCP or equivalent CCT in Ophthalmology or equivalent ophthalmic training (or be within 6 months of CCT date). Full GMC Registration (with a 'Licence to Practise'). Be on or eligible for the GMC specialist register. Desirable Higher Degree (e.g. MD or PhD). FURTHER TRAINING & KNOWLEDGE

Essential Experience of paediatric ophthalmology, strabismus or neuro-ophthalmology. Desirable Completed Higher Specialist Training in ophthalmology. SKILLS & ABILITY

Essential High degree of clinical skill in paediatric ophthalmology and strabismus. Desirable Audit & research Teaching & presentation skills. EXPERIENCE

Essential Experience in the management of patients with paediatric ophthalmology and strabismus and neuro-ophthalmology. Desirable Extensive experience in the management of patients with paediatric ophthalmology and strabismus related pathology problems. PERSONAL QUALITIES

Essential Good team building skills. Ability to lead & coordinate clinical teams. Desirable Experience in organising & managing a busy clinical service. Disclosure and Barring Service Check
