MSE are looking for an experienced Band 6 Paediatric Nurse, who is committed to the delivery of compassionate high quality care. We strive to use the views of staff working in our service to improve our current and future service. In return, we promise a supportive and friendly place to work.

Our Neptune Paediatric Unit has 16 beds catering for children aged 0-16 requiring medical, surgical and day-stay admission. We have a designated PAU consisting of 6 beds, isolation cubicle and treatment room. Neptune Paediatric Unit is fully supported by a large team of multi-disciplinary professionals including Doctors, Physiotherapists, Dieticians, qualified play staff/specialists, Paediatric Educators and Paediatric Clinical Nurse Specialists.

To be successful in this role you will need to demonstrate compassion, professionalism and leadership qualities. In liaison with the Unit Manager and fellow Band 6 Nurses, the nurse will lead and coordinate a dedicated team of nursing and support staff in the delivery of a high standard of nursing care.

In the absence of the Unit Manager (Band 7), the Band 6 nursing team will be responsible for the effective deployment of ward/department resources (including manpower), and will be able to follow escalation policies in a timely and comprehensive manner.

The nurse will assist in the development, implementation and monitoring of Governance systems in the ward/department relating to Risk Management, Health and Safety and Controls Assurance.

You will be responsible and accountable for the assessment of care needs and the development, implementation and evaluation of programmes of care without supervision for a defined group of patients.

Lead and monitor the practice and effectiveness of nursing actions, ensuring these are carried out with full regard for the safety of the patient and staff involved.

In conjunction with the Unit Manager, establish direction and purpose, inspire, motivate and empower ward/department team around the common goals to produce measurable improvements in clinical practice, quality and services.

Ensure that training and education opportunities are available to staff. Ensure personnel and team development to maximize performance and succession planning.

To participate in all relevant aspects of the Governance process, taking the lead in the absence of the Unit manager. The post holder will adhere to NMC Code of Conduct (2015, Updated 2018) at all times and ensure ward compliance with and application of hospital policies and procedures and professional guidelines.
