We are excited to offer an opportunity to apply for this Paediatric psychology role within the Paediatric Diabetes service in Aneurin Bevan University Health Board. The Paediatric Diabetes Service is dynamic, psychologically minded and keen to collaborate on psychologically informed and led developments.

The post holder will be an integral member of the Paediatric Diabetes Service working closely with their colleagues to deliver a clinical service to children, young people and their families coping with the impact of Diabetes in their lives through direct clinical work, consultation, teaching and training as well as developing resources and supporting staff teams on an in-patient and out-patient basis.

The role has close links with other Paediatric Psychologists working within Diabetes across Wales and will be part of a wider team of Paediatric Psychologists within the health board.

You will also be part of the well-established and respected ABUHB Child psychology service with professional support from specialist psychologists.

The department is based near Newport in South East Wales 15 miles from Cardiff, and offers a service to the boroughs of Monmouthshire, Newport, Caerphilly, Torfaen and Blaenau Gwent. Living in South East Wales offers the full range of lifestyle choice from the lively city life (Cardiff and Newport) to the mountains and rivers of the Brecon Beacons and Black Mountains. We are ten minutes from the M4 with easy access to Bristol and Cardiff.

Main duties of the job

To provide a psychological service to children and families in the population served by the specified service as directed by the Head of Paediatric Clinical Psychology Service and Paediatric Diabetes Service.

This includes: direct intervention work with Children / Young People and their families and significant others consultation work advising staff of other disciplines on the psychological aspects of casework.

It involves conducting psychological assessments and the delivery of appropriate therapeutic interventions for the full range of referred difficulties accepted by the Service.

To provide teaching, training and supervision of the psychological work of psychologists and of staff of other disciplines.

To conduct and supervise research and audit, and to develop and evaluate new clinical and psychological programmes, as a major responsibility of the job.

To participate in relevant research/audit groups, as required by the Family and Therapies Division.

To contribute to the development of new psychological services and participate in the Paediatric Clinical Psychology Service and Paediatric Diabetes Service planning and development, and advise the Head of Child and Family Psychology and Therapies Service and Paediatric Diabetes Service.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

Honours degree in Psychology. HCPC Registered Graduate status with BPS. Doctorate in Clinical Psychology accredited by the BPS, or equivalent accredited by the BPS.

Desirable

Other related academic qualifications IT skills training A post graduate research degree

Experience

Essential

Doctorate training across a range of client groups but must include Children. Significant experience of working with children with chronic health conditions and their families. Has completed at least 10 training days per year on courses relevant to the provision of Child and Family Psychology and Therapies Service. Has kept up-to-date on current clinical practice in Clinical Psychology and in Child and Family Services.

Desirable

Post qualification work experience in a relevant clinical or care setting Post qualification experience of working in Child Psychology specialising in working with children with chronic health conditions. To have obtained further experience of working within other Clinical Psychology specialities e.g. Child Services or Children with Chronic Health Condition Service Research experience and statistical expertise. Academic teaching experience
