The successful candidate will be joining a team of 8 other consultants to deliver patient care in acute paediatrics, neonates, level 3 safeguarding and outpatient clinics.
Acute paediatric rota (1:8) including attending hot weeks. Providing level 3 safeguarding advice.
General Paediatric OPD and specialist clinics (high risk neonatal developmental follow up).
As well as acute responsibilities, the successful candidate will contribute to safety, governance and development of the on-site neonatal unit (LNU).
Main Duties of the Job
Participation in an acute paediatric 'consultant of the week' rota (1 in 8 weeks) covering the Children's Ward and assessment unit areas.
Mon-Thurs 0900-1700 including covering the neonatal unit in the afternoons.
Fri 0900- Mon 0900 as part of that week (see out of hours working below).
The consultant covering the afternoons also responds to advice and guidance requests from local GPs.
Non-urgent safeguarding is electively brought to the ward in hours during the afternoon Mon-Friday and is currently the responsibility of the on-call consultant paediatrician.
Child deaths/SUDIC processes are relatively rare and are performed by the on-call consultant with time being given back in lieu.
Participation in an acute neonatal 'consultant of the week' rota (again 1 in 8 weeks).
Neonatal ward rounds Mon-Fri, 0900-1300.
Clinic activity may still occur in the afternoons.

Person Specification EDUCATION/QUALIFICATIONS
Full GMC Registration, with a Licence to Practice.
Undertaken programme of training acceptable to the Royal College of Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health for appointment to Consultant Status.
Higher Degree.
Entry on the Specialist Register via CCT (proposed CCT date must be within six months of interview), CESR or European Community Rights.
EXPERIENCE AND ATTAINMENTS
Evidence of specific training in Neonates (12 months including tertiary NNU, neonatal transport and/or Paediatric Intensive care).
Able to take responsibility for delivering the service without direct supervision.
Experience of DGH work.
Level 3 safeguarding training.
APLS provider.
NLS provider.
Communication Skills Training Programme or willing to attend.
Subspecialty interest (SPIN/GRID).
NLS instructor.
ARNI provider.
Cranial Ultrasound skill.
MDT with obstetrics.
SKILLS/ABILITIES
Leadership and Organisational Skills.
Ability to organise and manage priorities.
Management ability and understanding (or willingness to learn).
KNOWLEDGE/UNDERSTANDING
Appropriate to the holding of a Consultant Paediatrician.
Demonstrable understanding and acceptance of the principles of Clinical Governance.
Awareness of new developments in the specialty with ability to critically assess the impact of these on the service.
Evidence of participation in Clinical Audit.
Evidence of teaching skills.
Evidence of involvement in Clinical Research.
Teaching qualifications.
