Barts Health is one of the largest NHS trusts in the country, and one of Britain's leading healthcare providers.

You will work within a team of Paediatric Diabetes Specialist Nurses, whilst working closely with Consultant Paediatricians, Endocrinologists, Dietitians and Clinical psychologists.

The service currently manages over 700 children and young people with diabetes. We offer a specialist service providing expert management of complex type 1 diabetes, type 2 diabetes in childhood and adolescence, Cystic Fibrosis Diabetes and rare forms of monogenic diabetes and neonatal diabetes.

You will work across Barts Health Trust contributing to the development of diabetes standards and will participate in the delivery of the highly specialist aspects of paediatric diabetes care within 2 of the 3 sites. We are looking to recruit a dynamic, forward-thinking nurse who has a strong team work ethic, a sense of accountability, maintaining and developing the paediatric diabetes service for the future.

Main duties of the job

The Paediatric Diabetes service will deliver a seamless service and provide the highest level of expert nursing care to children and young people with diabetes, and their families, in line with agreed standards including the National Service Framework for Children and NICE guidelines.

The post holder will assist in the continued development of the Paediatric Diabetes service and work in close conjunction with their Manager and the named Paediatricians for Endocrinology.

The post holder will ensure that the aims and objectives of the Paediatric Diabetes service are delivered and implemented to continually improve the standard of care that children receive.

The post holder will be an advocate for children and young people with diabetes, and their families, promoting child-focused, family-centred care and act as a resource for the multi-agency team.

The post holder will have knowledge of the Senior Management Team and the development of the strategic plan for the Paediatric Diabetes service, taking into account the continuous quality improvement programme, to ensure the delivery of an efficient and cost-effective service in line with Best Practice Tariff.
