We are seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated children's nurse to join our established and supportive team for a 12-month maternity leave cover. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to our Children's Diabetes Service, providing expert care to children with diabetes across both hospital and community settings.

The role requires you to work across a broad geographical area and offer flexibility to meet the service's needs. This includes after-school visits, home visits, and, once competent, participation in our out-of-hours on-call service. You will also be responsible for delivering up-to-date education to carers, healthcare professionals, and external agencies involved in the child's care.

If you are passionate about supporting children with diabetes and are ready to make a difference in their lives, we would love to hear from you.

Main duties of the job

As part of the Children's Diabetes Multidisciplinary Team, you will deliver specialist nursing care to children with diabetes, their families, and carers. Your responsibilities will include assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating evidence-based nursing care for children and young people with diabetes.

You will provide expert clinical care for patients, while also supporting and mentoring other staff to enhance their competencies in diabetes management. Additionally, the role involves teaching and training both clinical staff and patients. You will work collaboratively across primary and community care settings, as well as liaise with other specialists within the acute setting.

About us

As an organisation, Somerset NHS Foundation Trust offers employees a wide range of benefits including flexible working, NHS pension scheme, generous annual leave allowance and a commitment to career development. You will be eligible for our Blue Light Card and a wide range of NHS exclusive shopping & leisure discounts. We are proud of our skilled, diverse workforce and as an inclusive employer we welcome applications from all backgrounds. Working in Somerset enables you to enjoy the idyllic countryside, areas of outstanding beauty and stunning coastlines whilst still only being a stone's throw away from bustling city centres like Bristol, Bath and Exeter and only two hours away from London.
