Main duties of the job

We are looking for a confident and motivated Dietitian to join our Dietetic and Speech Therapy Team at The Hillingdon Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. Our friendly team consists of 13 Dietitians, 9 Speech & Language Therapists and 3 administrators. The clinical caseload will include providing a high quality, evidence-based specialist dietetic service to the paediatric inpatient ward and 2 general paediatric outpatient clinics. You will be supported by a senior dietitian and will have the opportunity to upskill in areas such as neonatology, cystic fibrosis and diabetes. The post holder will be involved in educating staff on matters relating to nutrition and catering and will supervise student dietitians on placement. The post holder will be expected to manage their caseload independently and will be involved in department wide projects and service improvements. The Dietetic and Speech Therapy team is committed to continuing professional development, providing monthly coaching conversations and professional development sessions. We encourage staff as part of their annual appraisal to have an active involvement in audit and service improvement projects. Job responsibilities

Job summary To be responsible for the delivery of a high quality, evidence-based nutrition and dietetic service to a caseload of paediatric in and out patients at The Hillingdon Hospital. To be able to work independently and manage a defined clinical caseload and maintain accurate records. Clinical responsibilities To be responsible for the delivery of a comprehensive Nutrition & Dietetic service for paediatric in and outpatients working within the British Dietetic Association (BDA) Professional Code of Conduct and the HCPC Professional Standards of Practice. To work autonomously to provide nutrition advice and therapeutic support to patients, carers, and other health care professionals. This requires collation of complex information including: A. Nutritional assessment, diagnosis and interpretation of biochemistry, haematology, anthropometric data, clinical condition, social & cultural factors and diet history. B. Development of treatment plans which include calculation of nutritional requirements, patient centered goals and treatment outcomes. C. Prescription of dietary treatment using ACBS products for conditions adhering to professional/clinical guidelines. To negotiate change with patients to enable them to achieve dietary targets set. To monitor and review nutritional care plans against outcome measures and adjust care plan to facilitate achievement of goals. To undertake general (non-specialist) paediatric outpatient clinics, to include nutritional support, faltering growth, weaning, allergy, fussy eating, deficiencies and general nutritional advice. To provide dietetic advice to the paediatric multidisciplinary team (MDT) meetings and ward rounds. To liaise with all members of the team to advise on treatment and dietary management for patients and their families and carers. To make recommendations to the paediatric team regarding adaptation of medication/nutritional supplements/food for the management of nutrition support patients based on interpretation of biochemical parameters and clinical signs. To assist in provision of service to more specialist clinical areas under supervision of specialist dietitian as part of training and continuous professional development (CPD). To advise and liaise with the catering staff concerning the dietary needs for individual patients. To ensure safe and timely discharge of patients on home enteral feeding liaising with appropriate internal and external agencies. Degree or equivalent or post graduate qualification in Nutrition and Dietetics Evidence of current HCPC registration (State Registered Dietitian) Relevant dietetic experience of managing an inpatient and outpatient caseload either on clinical placement or post graduate dietetic experience. Experience of working with patients who require artificial nutrition. Experience of working as part of an MDT in the acute and/or community setting Working knowledge of a range of clinical conditions and current best practice for dietetic management in particularly type 2 diabetes, nutrition support, weight management, CVD and IBS Knowledge of medications commonly used in adult inpatients and their common side effects Knowledge of nutritional needs and nutritional assessment Member of the British Dietetic Association or covered by professional indemnity insurance Member of BDA Specialist Interest Group Post graduate highly specialist Paediatric Course -Module 1 (BDA) or other specialist training in the area of paediatrics Experience of training student dietitians Experience of working with a paediatric dietetic caseload Disclosure and Barring Service Check
