DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Clinical Responsibilities Assess, plan and implement care for children on arrival to the treatment area and prioritise need for clinical intervention after the appropriate training. To develop an area of clinical interest to improve the care & services offered to children and their families. Maintain effective communication with colleagues and patients and their families, assessing and supporting children and their families with understanding of their illness, health promotion and prevention of future illness. To ensure the safe administration of medicines in accordance with local policy and NMC guidelines, including Patient Group Directions. Provide support for children/young people and their families. Direct them to relevant services if appropriate. To ensure high standards of patient care at all times. Ensure an appropriate, welcoming and safe environment is provided for children and their families. As much as possible, this should be audio-visually separate from adults and in line with National Service Framework recommendations. To develop and keep clinical knowledge and skills updated, including developing and maintaining extended clinical role skills, following appropriate training. Assist in the identification of any child protection issues and make referrals to appropriate multidisciplinary team members including social services. Person specification

NMC Registered Nurse CHILD or on an approved university based nursing course leading to registration with the NMC in the next 3 months BSc or working towards PILS/APLS Emergency Nursing Module Skills & Abilities
Nursing and assessment skills Good verbal and written communication skills Ability to work as a team member IV Drug administration competency (competency can be undertaken in post) Cannulation Knowledge & Experience
