Act as a skilled nurse and role model in the care of children and young people with epilepsy and their families, demonstrating an excellent understanding and proficiency in the highly specialist nursing care and management of children and young people with epilepsy in both the hospital and community settings. Establish yourself as a lead for a caseload of children and young people with epilepsy under the direct care of the consultants, liaising appropriately with all key members of the multidisciplinary team and service users. Work with children and their families/carers from diagnosis throughout their ongoing care and facilitate the transition to other services or adult care. Participate in clinical work and coordination of investigations and relevant tests. Make recommendations and identify areas for development, presenting these to the epilepsy consultants for discussion prior to implementation. Be responsible for the development, implementation, and evaluation of programs of care, ensuring all activity is recorded as required. Use appropriate clinical judgement and autonomous decision-making, coordinating and managing the clinical caseload autonomously. Liaise and carry out community (home/school) visits for children and young people with epilepsy. Work as a member of the multidisciplinary/multi-agency team, ensuring close collaborative working with other departments/agencies to ensure holistic patient care. Qualifications
Essential: NMC registration RNC/RN with substantial paediatric experience Mentorship Degree in Nursing or related subject Substantial experience working as a nurse within Paediatric Epilepsy service Teaching and assessing in clinical practice qualification or equivalent Desirable: PET 1 and 2 Masters modules Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion Essential: Evidence of having championed diversity in previous roles (as appropriate to role). Evidence of having undertaken own development to improve understanding of equalities issues.
