Job responsibilities

ABOUT THE TEAM Southampton Children's Hospital is a leading centre for specialist paediatric services in the south of England. Our expanding children's nephrology service is dedicated to the treatment and long-term management of acute and chronic renal disorders. You will be supported by our Highly Specialist Paediatric Nephrology Pharmacist and work together as part of the multidisciplinary team of doctors, nurse specialists, dietitians and youth workers.

Our Children's Pharmacy team is a forward-thinking, supportive group that works collaboratively within paediatric multidisciplinary teams to deliver high-quality patient care. We are constantly striving to enhance the services we provide to our patients.

WHAT YOU'LL DO As a Specialist Paediatric Nephrology Pharmacist, you will play a crucial role in providing expert pharmaceutical care to both in-patient and out-patient paediatric nephrology patients. Your responsibilities will include:

Attending multidisciplinary ward rounds. Developing evidence-based treatment and shared care guidelines with specialist consultants. Overseeing the use of high-cost drugs within nephrology, coordinating the setup and use of specialist medicines, and managing medication supply via homecare companies or outpatients. Opportunities to develop a pharmacist prescriber role within the paediatric nephrology team. Educating and supporting patients, families, and other carers about the medications, their importance and supporting concordance with medication regimens. Teaching pharmacists, students, and members of the multidisciplinary team. Active participation in the paediatric pharmacy team. Engaging in audit and research opportunities.

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR We are seeking an enthusiastic pharmacist who is committed to teamwork and possesses excellent communication skills. Experience in paediatrics is essential, and previous experience in paediatric nephrology is desirable. Qualifications, knowledge and experience

Essential Masters Degree in Pharmacy or equivalent. Registered with General Pharmaceutical Council. Postgraduate diploma in clinical pharmacy or equivalent experience. Can demonstrate Advanced Stage 1 competencies in the RPS Advanced Pharmacy Framework in relation to medical or surgical patients. Experience of working as part of a multi-disciplinary team. Sound knowledge of clinical pharmacy services acquired while working within a suitable specialty. Experience of audit and evaluative work. Teaching and tutoring experience. Experience of supervising others. Experience of implementing change and change management. Development and implementation of guidelines and procedures.

Desirable Management qualification or equivalent experience. MSc in clinical pharmacy or equivalent experience. Independent Prescribing qualification. Can demonstrate Advanced Stage 2 or Mastery competencies in the RPS Advanced Pharmacy Framework in relation to medical or surgical patients. Leadership qualification or experience. Sound understanding of healthcare priorities and political agendas. Training in medicines information. Project Management training or qualification. Experience of managing others.
