Pain Management Clinical Nurse Specialist

To work as a lead specialist across chronic pain, to work alongside the acute pain service. Ensure the provision of specialist/expert knowledge for all users and to develop clinical excellence within the Pain Management Service and across Gateshead Health NHS Foundation Trust. To develop in partnership with the Consultant Anaesthetists, the Service line Manager, Matron and the multi-disciplinary teams to ensure a clinically effective, seamless Pain Management Service. To give expert advice and to facilitate pain management support, education and training. To be involved in the development of acute and chronic pain team initiatives. To continue to develop nurse-led services within the Pain Management Service. To contribute to the delivery and development of the service through the use of effective evidence-based practice in line with agreed national standards for clinical practice. To assess patients, plan and deliver patient care, provide specialist advice and maintain associated records. To continuously improve clinical care standards in line with the clinical governance framework to ensure the highest quality of care is provided in the safest manner. To act as a resource and role model for the profession at all times. Main duties of the job

To provide leadership in nurse-led initiatives for the Pain Management Service and to effectively manage the available resources within budget. To manage the workload within the time available for the area of practice. To work in close collaboration with Lead Consultant Anaesthetists for Chronic and Acute pain. To provide clinical expertise and advice regarding pain assessment and management to other nursing staff, medical staff, professionals allied to health, GPs, patients, families and carers. In collaboration with the MDT, explore scope for improving current Pain Management Service waiting times, investigations and treatments on behalf of the MDT. To work in collaboration with colleagues to further develop the Pain Management Service by means of education, health promotion, audit and research. To establish links with key professionals within the organisation and establish a network outside of the organisation to inform and influence best practice. Perform clinical assessment as an autonomous practitioner. Support the provision of clinical knowledge and advice to other theatre staff, the wider multi-professional team, allied health professionals, patients and their families/carers. Expected to have a vision for the area/service and be able to lead others and implement the vision in practice. About us

Perform clinical assessment as an autonomous practitioner within the multi-professional service and utilise clinical decision-making skills to determine patient pathway, i.e., discharge, follow-up, referral to other appropriate healthcare professionals or voluntary organisations for further support as required. Support the provision of clinical knowledge and advice to other theatre staff, the wider multi-professional team, allied health professionals, patients and their families/carers. Knowledge, skills and experience

Appropriate knowledge, skills and experience relevant to chronic/acute pain management for a Band 7 role. Degree in Nursing. Leadership skills. Experience in nurse-led clinics in the specialty. Disclosure and Barring Service Check
