The classic time to move into industry is once you have completed your accounting qualification, but this is a rare opportunity to get ahead of the career curve and move into the growing commercial audit team of a major listed construction business without compromising on your exams or study support. This dynamic business has a track record of significant acquisitions and currently has an opportunity within their commercial audit team. The team focuses predominantly on operational audits and comprises of people from a wide range of backgrounds including industry specialists giving you a great opportunity to really understand how the business works through looking at operational processes rather than just financial processes. You will be a key member of the team and will quickly gain responsibility for planning and conducting audits both as part of the wider team and on your own but with the support and guidance of an experienced senior team. Your work will span both the audit of individual business units as well as broader functional audits such as procurement, HR, insurance, joint ventures etc. There will also be the scope to become involved in risk management work and other ad-hoc projects. You must be able to drive and be prepared to travel within the UK for this role - predominantly in the Midlands and North, but it is not anticipated that you would need to stay away from home for more than 10% of the time. Also because of the decentralised nature of the business and their flexible working culture, you can work fully remote with occasional travel to site locations. Given this, there is a degree of flexibility with regard to your base location. The business has always supported home working – even pre-COVID. However, preferably you will be based in either the Midlands or the North of the UK. As the ideal candidate you will:
Be of degree calibre and ideally be part way through studying for a recognised accounting or audit qualification Have a minimum of 2 years experience within external audit in an accounting firm OR equivalent experience within the internal audit function of a commercial business Be able to drive/travel throughout the UK (max travel 20%) Be self-reliant and able to work autonomously and as part of a team Be a confident and articulate communicator who is able to build relationships with a wide range of people Seniority level
