Private practice Your experience You will ideally have experience in working in patent or trade mark administration, either in an in-house role or in private practice, and will be expected to work closely with the dedicated Formalities team and patent and trade mark attorneys. Ideally, you will have a patent or trade mark paralegal qualification (or will be working towards it). For the right candidate, Ellis IP will consider a paralegal with experience in an appropriate legal setting outside the patent/trade mark sector. Exceptionally, they would also consider a candidate new to IP/legal sectors who is willing to train as an IP paralegal and is capable of providing general administrative support from the outset. The role Your responsibilities, as part of the Formalities team, will include: Handling correspondence and ensuring deadlines are entered in their records system. Monitoring emails. Monitoring and checking deadlines. Ensuring deadlines are met by their attorneys and associates. Preparing correspondence. Filing patent, trade mark and design applications and forms at IP offices. Handling renewals instructions. Preparing cost estimates. Attending to patent portfolio administration. The role is for a full-time position, but they would consider applicants for a part-time role. Qualifications CIPA patent or trade mark paralegal qualification (preferred). Degree-qualified (preferred). Characteristics and qualities Reliable, honest and has integrity, excellent attention to detail, self-motivated and capable of working alone, capable of working within a team, self-starter, determined, shows initiative, ability to handle multiple priorities, collaborate with others and work under pressure, excellent oral and written communication skills, excellent organizational and time-management skills, ability to adhere to strict deadlines, computer literate, adaptable, keen to learn. Salary commensurate with experience and qualifications (but expect in range of £20-35k FTE). About Ellis IP Ellis IP is a small but growing firm with offices in Edinburgh and Inverness. They help their clients understand, capture, manage, protect and defend their IP assets, primarily working in patents, trade marks and designs. They provide a full range of IP services, with a core team of three patent attorneys (working across a range of technology areas), a dedicated Formalities team of three qualified patent paralegals and a small team of patent and trade mark attorney consultants. The right candidate will have the opportunity to help build and improve their processes and systems as the business develops.
