Pathology Assistant - Specimen Reception

Our Specimen Reception team receives patient specimens from the hospital wards, local clinics, and GPs. These are sorted and booked into the laboratory information management system (LIMS) before being passed on to the laboratory for testing. The team works a shift rota ensuring the reception is open 365 days a year, with afternoons/evenings, our busiest period, always covered with the most staff. Main duties of the job

This role requires attention to detail and an ability to follow strict protocols when receiving and booking in samples. The reception team books in thousands of samples every day. You will be handling, but not testing, a wide variety of blood and other sample types. This is not a clinical or laboratory-based role. Qualifications

Good general education to GCSE level including English and Maths NVQ 3 level qualification in a relevant subject or equivalent level of experience and knowledge Completion of NVQ level 2 in Clinical Laboratory Support Completion of formal one-year Laboratory Training and Assessment Programme Experience

Knowledge of and commitment to healthcare Accepts responsibility whilst recognising limits Experience in Pathology laboratory techniques Disclosure and Barring Service Check
