We are recruiting to fill a post for a Patient First Improvement Practitioner within the Strategy Deployment Team. This role supports the delivery of the Patient First Improvement Programme across University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust. The Patient First Improvement Programme is the Trust's long-term approach to transforming hospital services for the better using Lean Management and other continuous improvement methodologies to ensure the very best quality of care and experience for our patients and their relatives/carers.

We are looking for a dynamic, self-motivated individual with a passion for delivering continuous improvement to front line services in healthcare.

Ideally, applicants should have working knowledge of continuous improvement methods/tools such as A3 Thinking, PDSA, etc.

The role's base site will be Worthing with a requirement to operate cross-site. This will be further discussed and confirmed following the interview.

Main duties of the job Act as the aligned Improvement Practitioner supporting specific Divisions in delivering improvements through A3 thinking. Provide support and coaching to implement and sustain Strategy Deployment maturity tracking with a particular focus on PFIS maturity, Directorate level improvement huddles and divisional driver meetings whilst also supporting the divisions by ensuring there is sufficient divisional capability to implement and sustain the entire improvement management system.

We require someone with the right personal attributes, attitude, and drive for delivering support to divisional teams including frontline staff to make daily continuous improvement.

The applicant must have experience and skills in providing good communication and stakeholder management as they will be liaising through multiple layers of the organisation.

Job description Job responsibilities Build strong working relationships with directorate and divisional leaders by providing direct coaching to deploy the entire management system at a directorate level. Engage and communicate regularly with divisional teams to build relationships. Act as a coach, ensuring the use of the correct coaching approaches as required, including the PFIS 3 step coaching model and relevant coaching skills such as effective questioning, active listening, generating tangible actions and giving helpful feedback. Provide fair challenge at frontline, directorate and divisional meetings to challenge ways of working and provide insight into utilising the management system to bring about change and improvement. Support the delivery of PFIS training and continuous improvement tools training when required to enable building of capability across the organisation, ensuring staff have the appropriate level of skills training to deliver continuous improvement as a business as usual activity. Be able to train on all aspects of continuous improvement and the required tools as well as being able to support A3 training (Yellow belt). Develop and create engaging webinars/virtual training in continuous improvement tools to support capability building across the organisation. Promote the entire improvement system and Patient First values to encourage new ways of working across the organisation. Be able to deliver presentations to a variety of audiences including front line staff, divisional or senior leaders etc. Work closely with the other Patient First Improvement Practitioners to ensure consistency in ways of working across all divisions and standardise practices.

Person Specification Manual Criteria Essential Educated to degree level in relevant discipline or equivalent experience Experience of providing continuous improvement training Practical experience of coaching and coaching standards/practices. Accredited lean qualification Practical experience of implementing lean/continuous improvement methodologies Experience of building strong working relationships

Desirable Experience in a continuous improvement system, ideally in the NHS Coaching qualification Experience of delivering virtual training. Advanced IT skills in particular PowerPoint, Excel & Outlook
