Patient Safety and Engagement Coordinator
Department: Patient Safety
Band: 4, £26,530 - £29,114 Per annum, pro rata
Hours: Part-time 20 hours per week, all MKUH roles will be considered for flexible working
This is an exciting time at the Trust as we continue to embed the new patient safety incident response framework (PSIRF). This supports a significant shift in the way the NHS responds to patient safety incidents. PSIRF supports the development and maintenance of an effective patient safety incident response system that integrates four key aims:
Compassionate engagement and involvement of those affected by patient safety incidents
Application of a range of system-based approaches to learning from patient safety incidents
Considered and proportionate responses to patient safety incidents
Supportive oversight focused on strengthening response system functioning and improvement (quality improvement)
The Patient Safety & Engagement Coordinator role is crucial in the facilitation and implementation of this strategy and will focus on supporting the Patient Safety and Learning Leads in investigations and the wider divisions across the hospital.
Please note that we are not able to offer sponsorship for this role.
Interview date: 27 February 2025
Main duties of the job
The role will be very varied with each day directed by the nature of reported incidents and ongoing investigations and as such will require flexibility with regards to working arrangements.
Provide administrative support within the Patient Safety Team and across divisions to support the delivery of safe care and good engagement with staff, patients and families who have been involved in a patient safety incident.
Provide support in data, maintaining spreadsheets and trend inputting using appropriate software packages and risk management systems to a high standard of accuracy and presentation.
Support the implementation of key policies, protocols and improvement actions.
Prepare monitoring data for key monthly and quarterly reports as requested (including that from the Radar system).
Provide administration support for meetings such as preparation and distribution of papers and minute taking at meetings.
Answer telephone calls from staff, patients and relatives providing general information or directing the caller to an appropriate team member.
We are looking for a highly motivated, adaptable and flexible individual with extremely good attention to detail, excellent and empathetic communication skills and ideally with some experience in data management. An insight into the principles of incident management and patient safety would be beneficial to support the Trust with its PSIRF journey and this new way of working.
