THE UNIVERSITY OF LIVERPOOL Faculty of Science and Engineering School of Physical Science Chemistry Department PDRA IN COMPUTATIONAL MODELLING FOR

MATERIALS DESIGN AND DISCOVERY

GRADE 7 Job Ref: 086411 Salary: £39,105 - £45,163 per annum Fixed term until 31 March 2027 An opportunity to lead work on materials design and discovery for an exceptional researcher with experience in developing and applying computational chemistry tools to materials science. This position forms part of an interdisciplinary team in the Leverhulme Centre for Functional Materials Design working across physical and computer science to develop new pathways to the design and discovery of inorganic materials. An example of such pathway to discover new experimental structures is demonstrated in a recent paper (*Science*, **2024**, *383*, 739) in which Density Functional Theory simulations were used to both identify the target chemical composition for synthesis and to understand the origin of high ionic conductivity of the new material. As we work closely with experts in chemistry and computer science, the environment that this creates is central to all of the group’s work. You must therefore be able to interact effectively with colleagues with complementary skills (e.g. computer scientists or measurement physics specialists). This is a full-time position, available until 31 March 2027. A PhD in Physics, Chemistry or Materials Science is required. If you are still awaiting your PhD to be awarded you will be appointed at Grade 6, spine point 30. Upon written confirmation that you have been awarded your PhD, your salary will be increased to Grade 7, spine point 31. The University of Liverpool is committed to enhancing workforce diversity. We actively seek to attract, develop, and retain colleagues with diverse backgrounds and perspectives. We welcome applications from all genders/gender identities, Black, Asian, or Minority Ethnic backgrounds, individuals living with a disability, and members of the LGBTQIA+ community. Closing date: 2nd February 2025.
