PhD and Postdoc Openings: Strathclyde, Scotland, United Kingdom PhD and Postdoc Openings:
Join the Lau group’s innovative research in biomaterials, self-assembly, AI-directed materials discovery, and nature-inspired acoustics. Multiple PhD and postdoc positions are available for highly qualified candidates from diverse backgrounds. Explore specific opportunities in AI-directed materials discovery and 3D-printing of insect-mimetic acoustic structures, among others. Applications open for multiple 4-yr PhD and 5-yr master+PhD scholarships. Research areas include biomaterials, self-assembly, AI-directed materials discovery, and nature-inspired acoustics. Highly qualified candidates sought for research fellowships in peptoids for antimicrobial and self-assembly, and polyphenol materials for environmental applications. Prizes and/or peer-reviewed international publications are preferred. Project 1 – AI-DIRECTED DISCOVERY OF SELF-ASSEMBLED PEPTIDE-PEPTOID ACOUSTICS MATERIALS:
Focuses on AI-directed discovery of biomimetic peptoid-peptides for acoustic materials. Involves molecular simulation with experimental verification. Scholarships available for both PhD (4yr) and masters+PhD (5 yr) programs.
Project 2 – 3D-PRINTING OF SELF-ASSEMBLED INSECT-MIMETIC ACOUSTIC STRUCTURES:
Utilizes hybrid “top-down” and “bottom-up” approach. Collaboration between chemistry and electrical engineering. Scholarships available for both PhD (4yr) and masters+PhD (5 yr) programs.
Project 3 – DEVELOPING MULTIFUNCTIONAL BIOMATERIALS:
Focuses on developing synthetic polymer vascular grafts with anti-bacterial properties and promoting cell/tissue integration. One 4-yr PhD scholarship funded by Medical Research Scotland. Ideal applicants should have experience in biointerfaces, bioinspired materials, polymer chemistry, etc.
Detailed application procedures available on respective project advertisement pages. Criteria include relevant academic background, communication skills, and aptitude for collaboration. Some scholarships have specific eligibility criteria, such as being targeted for Black students or those from low-income backgrounds.
