A clean driving record is required. Summary:
The main function of a phlebotomist is to assist in performing various assigned duties, troubleshooting, training, and making workflow recommendations. Position Responsibilities: Experience in blood draws, labeling specimens, centrifuging specimens, recording maintenance data, decontamination, and updating patient information. Collect and store specimens according to established procedures. Explain the process of venipuncture (blood drawing) and other specimen collection (e.g., urine or fecal) in a clear and courteous manner. Demonstrate techniques using straight needles and/or butterfly needles. Understand all physicians' orders and match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes. Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test orders. Check all test requisitions or computer labels against scripts to ensure 100% accuracy. Package specimens for transport and store specimen samples according to required temperature. Accurately label and follow procedures outlined by protocols necessary for transport to maintain specimen integrity. Understand and comply with OSHA and DEP regulations and attend annual department trainings. Answer telephone calls and read laboratory results to satisfy inquiries. Minimum Qualifications: Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state of employment as required in some states. Minimum of 6 months' work experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite. High School Diploma or GED. 2-4+ years of experience.
