About the opportunity

Amentum are looking for talented physicists and analysts to join the Nuclear and Thermal Analysis team in our Energy business. Work primarily involves support to the UK nuclear energy sector but may also include opportunities in the broader nuclear industry, other advanced engineering sectors or nuclear elsewhere in the world.

As a consultancy business our team supports many projects. You may be supporting a single client project or potentially multiple projects at a time depending on the opportunities available and your skills and preferences.

No previous industry experience is required for this role, development will be provided through on-the-job training, mentoring and training courses as appropriate.

To give an example of the typical work undertaken, our team have projects in reactor physics, shielding, criticality, fuel cycle management, thermal analysis, fault studies and transient analysis, coding, boiler analysis, safety case production, etc.

Our team is in high demand and we look to grow to meet these needs. People within the team have the opportunity to work on the support of the current civil nuclear power generation and support the projects building and developing future power plants. Team members also could use their skills in the broader nuclear market such as R&D, defence and decommissioning.

This role will provide the opportunity for career development, the roles people undertake on projects is dependent on the skills and competency of the individual, therefore as you develop you will be given the opportunity to take on more responsible roles and increase in seniority.

Many within the team have developed their career in role, starting in graduate positions and progressing through the grades towards becoming principal physicists.

Whilst we are open to inexperienced physicists for this role we are also interested in experienced physicists joining the team and appropriate positions can be made available.

Key skills required:

Experience within an engineering consultancy environment or nuclear sector Knowledge of reactor technologies and experience of undertaking physics assessments for civil nuclear power technologies Experience of bid writing or assessment and associated commercial awareness Familiar with nuclear safety assessments and safety case construction Ability to assimilate, analyse and provide judgements on complex technical issues clearly and concisely Good consultancy skills, eg, good communication, teamwork, be adaptable to client requirements and time management skills Nuclear masters and PhDs preferred or Degree or Post Graduate qualification in a relevant engineering or scientific discipline Our Culture
