We have an exciting opportunity for a physiotherapist to work within the York and Selby Adult Community Learning Disability multidisciplinary team and across North Yorkshire within a developmental post.

The ideal candidate will have some experience of working with people with complex neurological needs or complex physical and mental health presentations and/or learning disabilities. In absence of direct experience, a special interest in the field of learning disabilities is essential.

You will be HCPC registered and must have a recognised BSC or MSC in Physiotherapy.

This post would be suitable for a newly qualified and/or band 5 Physiotherapist with transferable skills with the aim to progress to a band 6 Specialist Physiotherapist.

The successful candidate will benefit from being part of a large group of Physiotherapy staff (60+) working in Learning Disabilities and Mental health across TEWV Trust services, with guidance from Clinical Leads, Clinical Specialists, and the Professional Head of Physiotherapy.

Main duties of the job You will be an autonomous qualified physiotherapist providing assessment, treatment planning and provision for adults with learning disabilities who have complex physical and psychological needs. You will be a member of the York and North Yorkshire Learning Disability team, working alongside band 4, 6 and 7 Physiotherapists. As part of a multidisciplinary team, you will work closely with other professions.

You will be expected to work in isolation in a variety of settings in the community; however, you will have supervision from qualified physiotherapists and there is joint working available with the other Physiotherapists. You will be based in the York community team but also work as part of the North Yorkshire and York Learning Disability Service.

This is a developmental post; depending upon your previous experience and development, you will be expected to become a band 6 in 1 - 2 years following the completion of a competency framework.

Job responsibilities Manages a complex caseload from assessment to discharge with varying and multiple physical and psychological needs. Responsible for ensuring the highest professional standards and attitudes towards the care of service users are maintained at all times and that care is delivered in accordance with evidence-based practice by all members of the team. Assesses and manages risk effectively in clinical and community settings including individuals' own home. Works with individuals and carers to identify physiotherapy goals as part of the overall Multidisciplinary Team plan. Engages individuals in specialist therapeutic activities and encourages service users/carers in a compassionate manner, to support them in achieving their identified goals. Monitors and evaluates treatment in order to measure progress and modifies treatment plans to ensure effectiveness of clinical interventions. Responsible for ensuring active engagement within all developmental opportunities and supervision including competency framework to support clinical progression from band 5 to band 6 within a 12-year timeframe.
