Physiotherapy Assistant Spinal Injuries Rehabilitation

Physiotherapy is an integral part of the rehabilitation of patients with spinal cord injury. Physiotherapy assistants are essential members of the team delivering this service, providing administrative and clinical support to the physiotherapists, along with direct involvement in patient treatment sessions. An ability to work and provide care to people with a disability, good verbal communication on the telephone and in face-to-face contact, organisational skills such as being able to respond to requests for assistance from multiple sources, a sensitive and empathetic approach in patient contact are all necessary qualities. The successful candidate will be able to carry out instructions, provide feedback and balance responses to varying demands of patient care and administrative support requested from the physiotherapists. An ability to participate in manual handling tasks is crucial. Competence and capability in undertaking personal care, such as assisting patients with manual handling, dressing and toileting, is needed. Experience of working within a team and contributing to its function is essential. Experience in working in a customer care setting is essential and previous employment within the NHS is desirable. A commitment to working in this post for a minimum of 1 year is sought. Main duties of the job

This post involves working alongside physiotherapists with patients following spinal cord injury within a rehabilitation environment. The main tasks of the job are: To assist qualified physiotherapy staff to implement patient treatment programmes and treatments; this includes preparing treatment areas and assisting patients as required. To document and feedback to qualified physiotherapists following all contact with patients. To provide the necessary personal care to spinal cord injury patients, to enable them to participate in physiotherapy treatments within the Spinal Gym environment. To support in non-clinical tasks such as cleaning of equipment, administrative activities, equipment management, data collection and maintenance of a safe working environment within the Spinal Gym. Experience

Able to accept and undertake responsibility for designated tasks. Previous work in health care environment including manual handling tasks. Experience of working with people with a disability and providing personal care. 6 months experience within a customer care (face to face) environment. Previous work as a Physiotherapy Assistant or allied profession within the NHS. Skills, abilities and knowledge

Ability to clearly and effectively communicate. Completion of all 4 questions from person specification into Supporting Information section of application form. Demonstrate good organisational skills. Demonstrate insight into the importance of maintaining a safe working environment. Able to know own limitations and seek advice. Able to undertake manual handling tasks. Physical ability and endurance to work in the physical environment of the clinical area required by this post. Confident and comfortable in delivering personal care. Evidence of being able to complete tasks set and follow instructions. Completion of 2 questions from person specification into Supporting Information section of application form. Confident and comfortable working in a team environment. Able to work within a team setting. Awareness of health & safety issues and policies. Education, Qualifications and Training

Good level of education to GCSE standard (at least 3 subjects). Level 3 GCSE or equivalent in English. Able to demonstrate competence in written and spoken English. Qualification in Health Care. Manual Handling or First Aid qualification. Disclosure and Barring Service Check
