Planner We're looking for an Engineering Planner who has roots in a trade like Plating or Welding and has moved to a desk-based role. Our Planner at A&P Tyne has a unique project to plan for. The ability to plan for it depends on pulling from experience as a tradesman to create realistic timelines for tasks and milestones. Ideal for someone who has made the transition from being on the tools to a similar desk-based role. Who are we? A&P Group has a clear vision – to build customer success. We have earned an enviable reputation for delivering engineering strength across the commercial marine, major fabrication, and defence sectors. This latest endeavour at A&P Tyne is a key large-scale newly designed customer project that will be worked on for a number of years to come. It’s an exciting first for the facility, and the project is progressing at a pace. And what will you do as a Planner at A&P? Working within the Project Team, you will ensure that our team is meticulously organised and work is efficiently executed, as there is little room for error due to the unique nature of this project. In this role, you’ll be working on a full turn-key equipment project including fabrication, outfitting, coating, and commissioning. Your involvement will be both challenging and visible. You’ll be responsible for managing complexity, ensuring smooth workflows, and adapting plans as needed. As a key person in project meetings, you’ll ensure the team is informed on expected activity durations and resource allocations. Creating detailed project timelines, you’ll do Project Scheduling and Timeline Development. You will build timelines from scratch, considering all stages of production, including design, procurement, manufacturing, and quality checks. You’ll identify critical paths and bottlenecks to ensure deadlines are met, avoiding substantial project overruns. Assigning resources precisely, you’ll avoid under- or over-utilisation. Materials need to be ordered for specific stages, considering lead times, material specifications, and supplier reliability. You’ll track and manage inventory ensuring that parts and materials are available when needed. Technical drawings, specifications, and job requirements need to be fully grasped to create realistic plans. Mid-project, you’ll make changes to the overall plan without disrupting progress. You’ll coordinate quality inspections at critical points, flagging potential risks and building contingency plans. You’ll be proactive in forecasting potential problems and creating backup plans. You’ll prepare cost estimates working with finance and engineering teams. Throughout the production process, you’ll ensure the project stays within budget. You’ll ensure your Buyer checks that materials, components, or outsourced work are delivered on time and meet specifications. You’ll track the process in real-time and adjust the schedule as needed. You’ll provide progress reports to management and stakeholders daily. And what are we looking for? Experience in a trade like Plating or Welding and a transition to a desk-based role. Knowledge of fabrication, structural and production processes, and engineering principles with qualifications in Engineering, Production Management, Construction, or similar. Knowledge of Earned Value Management. Project planning and organisational skills with experience in relevant planning software (we use Microsoft Project). The ability to collaborate with stakeholders internally and externally. Why join us? This is an opportunity to make a significant impact while working with and learning from a team of experts from the marine and structural engineering industries. Exciting projects providing opportunities for growth and advancement. Salary based on experience and what you will bring to the role. Benefits including 25 days annual leave plus bank holidays, 4% pension contribution, company health shield, and death in service benefit. Due to the nature of what we do for some customers, some roles are subject to security control restrictions. These restrictions mean that factors including your nationality, previous nationalities, and place of birth may limit roles you can perform with us. You must also undergo a Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) check before your employment starts, which will include a basic DBS check.
