About the Plastics & Circular Economy Team Our plastics work has contributed to the global debate on plastics, with world-class reports including “ Breaking the Plastic Wave ”, “ ReShaping Plastics ”, and “ Plastic Treaty Future ” providing the North Star of where the plastic system needs to go. Additionally, we have supported global coalitions such as the Consumer Goods Forum Coalition of Action on Plastic Waste , the 4evergreen Alliance and the Global Partnership for Action on Plastic (GPAP), and have participated in the Business Coalition for a Global Plastic Treaty. Systemiq also provides advisory services to leading companies, governments, and multi-lateral organisations (e.g., World Bank, UN, World Economic Forum, etc) on solutions for the plastic challenge. Role Overview We are seeking an expert in plastics and chemical engineering with a keen interest in sustainability and value chain dynamics to join our team. This role will provide critical technical insights to support our project teams and partners in understanding and optimizing the lifecycle of plastic materials within a circular economy framework. While this role does not require full project management, you will work collaboratively with various teams and stakeholders to drive technical excellence and support impactful initiatives. Key Responsibilities Technical Expertise: Provide subject matter expertise on plastic materials, chemical processes, and sustainability practices, focusing on minimizing environmental impact and supporting circular economy principles. Sustainability Analysis: Conduct technical analyses related to material flows, lifecycle assessments, and the economic implications of circular strategies in plastics and chemicals. Collaboration & Support:

Work closely with project managers and other team members to support the development and delivery of solutions that balance economic viability and environmental sustainability. Research & Data Analysis:

Help gather, analyze, and interpret data related to plastics value chains, contributing insights to guide strategy and client recommendations. Stakeholder Engagement: Assist in communicating complex technical information to non-expert audiences, ensuring clarity in sustainability goals and project impact. Qualifications Education: Master’s degree (or equivalent experience) in Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, or a related field with a focus on sustainability. Experience: 3-7 years of technical experience in roles related to one or more of the following areas, demonstrating a solid understanding of value chains: Plastics, materials science, petrochemicals, mobility and transport, heavy industries, energy, consumer goods, manufacturing, construction, waste management, or electronics. Knowledge of circular economy principles and experience in applying systems-change concepts is a strong advantage. Analytical Skills: Proficient in data analysis and problem-solving, particularly as it relates to chemical engineering processes and sustainability assessments. Team Collaboration: A collaborative team player who is eager to contribute to impactful sustainability projects. Experience working in a cross-functional or international team environment is a plus. Passion for Sustainability: Demonstrated commitment to environmental sustainability and interest in circular economy initiatives.
