Unitary’s purpose is to make the internet safer to improve lives and create a fairer world. We are a rapidly growing start-up developing best-in-class AI models that automatically detect and classify harmful content online. Our AI combines the strengths of human moderation (accurate video classification) with the benefits of automated detection (speed and scalability). This cutting-edge technology will help us solve real-world problems in content moderation and beyond. We believe in an online world free from harm, where we can trust AI to make safe and fair decisions. We have raised about $25M in VC funding from top-tier funds, including Creandum and Plural, and operate at a significant scale - analysing millions of images and videos daily from the world’s largest platforms. But we are just at the beginning of our journey - and we are very excited about our plans for growth over the coming year and beyond! The role

As a Platform Engineer, you will help us improve and maintain our highly scalable platform that serves up Unitary’s cutting-edge machine learning technology. Your mission will be to ensure our platform can run smoothly with minimum downtime and maximum customer satisfaction. You will achieve this by investigating issues when something goes wrong but also, more importantly, implementing proactive tools and procedures so that these issues do not happen again. As you develop in the role, there may be options to specialise further into Platform, Site Reliability Engineering, or DevOps disciplines at a later date. Requirements

You

We are looking for someone who is as excited about Unitary’s mission as we are, who wants to have a large impact at an early-stage startup, and be a key part of defining Unitary’s future as one of our early employees. We need versatile people who are happy to get stuck into whatever needs doing, and are ready to learn and grow with the company. For this particular role, we need a proactive platform expert who can work independently to make our infrastructure, services, and procedures highly resilient. You will be ready to dive straight into solving problems both technical and operational, and can demonstrate an ability to adapt to new technologies in a fast-paced start-up environment. You embrace a customer first mindset in a role that directly impacts their experience through platform availability and reliability. We would love to hear from you if you:

Have knowledge of provisioning, managing and scaling AWS infrastructure (including EKS, S3, IAM) Are confident in developing robust CI/CD pipelines (e.g. Github Actions), and optimising DevOps procedures and processes Have experience of troubleshooting containerised microservices (Docker, Kubernetes) and knowledge of how to configure and deploy them Have worked with API services and production systems, including knowledge of maintaining service uptime and automated scaling Have previously used tools and services for monitoring such as Prometheus, InfluxDB, Grafana, and Datadog It would be even better, but not essential, if you:

Are familiar with event-driven systems, ideally AWS SQS Are experienced with Infrastructure as Code (e.g. Terraform) Have experience writing production code in languages such as Go or Python Have knowledge of how to automate training and deploying AI/ML models (MLOps) This role can be placed anywhere within 3 hours of the UK time zone.
