LSE is committed to building a diverse, equitable and truly inclusive university. Salary from £42,429 to £50,656 per annum with potential to progress to £54,295 pa inclusive of London allowance. This is a fixed term appointment until 30 November 2026, with extension subject to funding. The Grantham Research Institute on Climate Change and the Environment (the Institute), a research centre within the LSE, brings together international expertise from a wide range of disciplines, including economics, finance, geography, the environment, international development and the political economy. The Institute has established a new Centre for Economic Transition Expertise (CETEx), focused on leveraging, strengthening and amplifying research, and developing well-targeted policy analysis and other outputs, by convening policymakers, and by providing technical support, assistance and capacity-building. This new centre will support the reforms necessary to deliver sustainable, inclusive and resilient economies and financial systems across Europe. We seek to appoint a policy analyst that will work on policy and research projects within a newly established EMDE programme at CETEx based within the Grantham Research Institute. The Policy Analyst will conduct research, write up findings and contribute to finance- and policy-oriented outputs related to critical mineral supply chains and their implications for monetary, financial and economic policymakers, including briefing and research papers and presentations or blogs for bilateral engagements in emerging markets and developing economies. Contribute to initiating, developing and sustaining links with contacts and networks within and outside LSE including other educational institutions, multilateral development banks, producers, processors and traders of critical minerals, policy networks, and professional organisations to foster collaboration. The candidate will help organise and conduct engagement activities (such as conferences, seminars, and workshops) with the relevant stakeholders (including central banks and supervisors, finance/economic/trade ministries or industry associations), to ensure that research outputs have demonstrable impact and inform policymaking. Additionally, work as part of a team within the GRI and contribute to the broader CETEx team on cross-cutting issues. Candidates will have a postgraduate degree in finance, economics, climate/environmental governance, environmental or ecological economics, energy economics, geography or a closely related field by the post start date. It is desired that the postholder has experience working closely or within a policymaker such as a central bank, financial supervisor or a ministry of trade, preferably on environmental risks or other sustainability challenges. The postholder will have experience in contributing towards outputs (e.g. reports, briefings, events) that achieve impact by influencing policymakers and demonstrable understanding of issues facing EMDEs in the green transition, such as debt sustainability. Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English and ability to communicate technical research findings to a non-technical audience along with willingness to work as part of a close-knit EMDE team within GRI is required. We offer an occupational pension scheme, generous annual leave, hybrid working, excellent training and development opportunities.
