This is a whole-time fixed term post of one year with the Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, based at the Royal Hallamshire Hospital. The appointee will provide intermediate grade support to the Consultant Ophthalmologists appropriate to his/her level of experience. The successful candidate will be expected to develop a special interest in Vitreoretinal Surgery. The appointment is to commence August 2025 for a fixed term period of 1 year. A medical degree from a recognised UK or overseas university is essential. Candidates will have completed training in Ophthalmology (or be within 6 months of completion) at interview. The post does not award a National Training Number. As this post is not recognised as a 'training post', full registration with the GMC with a licence to practise is required, and if the appointee does not hold right of residence in the UK sponsorship will be required. Applicants should be ST7 or equivalent at the time of interview. Main duties of the job

Appointments are made to the Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and the person appointed is required to be sufficiently flexible to undertake their main clinical duties at any of the sites within the Trust and/or to change their base hospital. Given the special interest of this post, a proportion of the duties of this post will be carried out in the Sheffield Children's Hospital. Qualifications

Registered (or eligible to be registered) with the GMC with a licence to practise Qualified Medical Practitioner Member of Royal College of Ophthalmology (or equivalent) Distinction, prizes, awards, scholarships and other degrees Presentations Successful completion of training prior to commencement of the Fellowship (or within 6 months of completion). Clinical training and experience equivalent to that required for gaining CCT in Ophthalmology. Eligible for specialist registration with the GMC Competence in the assessment and management of retinal disease Research

Ability to critically assess published research and incorporate it into clinical practice where appropriate Basic understanding of research methods and statistics Publications in Peer reviewed journals CPD

Evidence of participation in CME/CPD in the last 12 months Maintenance of a CPD diary or portfolio Personal Attributes

Demonstrates behaviour consistent with PROUD values The applicant must demonstrate skills in listening, reading, writing and speaking the English language that enables effective communication about medical topics with patients and colleagues as set out in the GMC's good medical practice (2013).
