Postdoctoral Research Associate – Ocean Sciences Faculty of Science and Engineering, School of Environmental Sciences, Department of Earth, Ocean and Ecological Sciences Ref: R-590700/WWW You will examine how heat and carbon are taken up over the global ocean using a suite of ocean and climate models. You will test a hypothesis that the ocean controls how surface warming nearly linearly increases with carbon emissions, which is a relationship that has emerged from climate models. You will apply our new theory to explore the ocean heat and carbon uptake, addressing their similarities and differences and their effects on this climate relationship. A hierarchy of ocean and climate model experiments will be conducted ranging from simplified idealised domains to realistic global configurations. You will join a research team based at Liverpool University together with collaborative partners at Southampton University, the UK Hadley Centre and GFDL at Princeton, USA. You should have a PhD in physical oceanography, meteorology or fluid dynamics (or equivalent research experience), a first degree in a numerate physical or environmental science or mathematics with experience in numerical ocean modelling. You will be skilled at model analysis and ideally model development with an aptitude for theoretical investigation. You will be expected to publish in the relevant peer-reviewed literature. The post is available for 2 years, until 31 August 2018. Closing date for receipt of applications: Friday, 10 Jun 2016 17:00:00 BST
