WE ARE HIRING!!! With funding from the BBSRC, we are looking for someone who is able to work in a biochemistry lab. Having a skillset that includes molecular biology and biophysics is ideal. A background doing single molecule imaging/manipulation and/or muscle biology would be great, but this can be trained! What you will do? This position is aimed at understanding the mechanisms of control of muscle contraction with single molecule resolution. The project will utilize actin tightropes (a technique we invented in 2015) to measure how one myosin communicates to another that it has bound. In addition, we want to study muscle activation in myofibrils, the contractile organelles of muscle. So we extract these from tissue and then make single molecule measurements in those. To take this further, the successful applicant will work with me to develop a 3D super-resolution approach to visualize exactly where the activation occurs in the 3D lattice of a myofibril! This is super-exciting and we'd love for a dynamic person to join our team and throw themselves into this project that promises to deliver several great publications to advance the field in this hot topic. Minimum Requirements: A relevant PhD (or to be in the final stages of obtaining such a qualification) or equivalent in a related field of study (e.g., Biosciences, Biomedicine, Biophysics, Other science disciplines) Proven experience in conducting research projects, including data collection and analysis Expertise/experience in microscopy/imaging, developing assay systems, molecular biology & protein Demonstrated ability to write and publish research findings in peer-reviewed journals Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and independently in a research or academic setting, contributing towards projects and initiatives Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to clearly present and convey complex information to diverse audiences Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines Familiarity with more specialized or advanced research methods (e.g. single molecule methods, muscle biology, using software, developing software) First author publication of research findings in a peer-reviewed journal Seniority level
