Postdoctoral Research Associate in Combinatorial and Computable Topology

·
Full time
We invite applications for a Postdoctoral Research Associate to work with Prof. Christopher Douglas at the Mathematical Institute, University of Oxford. This is a fixed term position for up to 33 months, funded by the Engineering & Physical Sciences Research Council. We anticipate that the successful candidate will take up the position between 1 April 2025 at the earliest and 1 October 2025 at the latest. The successful candidate will be part of a research group with responsibility for carrying out research as part of the EPSRC grant "Computable Manifolds". The research group is developing a computable theory of manifolds based on a higher-algebraic framework at the intersection of quantum topology, quantum algebra, and combinatorial and computable topology. The postdoc will have the opportunity for independent research and collaboration with other members of the Mathematical Institute. The position includes the opportunity for and expectation of informal mentorship of students in the group. Applicants will have, or be close to completing, a PhD in pure mathematics, and possess sufficient specialist knowledge in the discipline to work within established research programmes. They will have excellent communication skills, including the ability to write for publication, present research proposals and results, and represent the research group at meetings. We proudly hold a departmental Athena SWAN Silver Award and an institutional Race Equality Charter Bronze Award, which guide our progress towards advancing racial and gender equality. As part of our strategic aim to improve staff equality and diversity, we would particularly welcome applications from women and BME candidates, who are currently under-represented in positions of this type within the department. Please direct informal enquiries to the Recruitment Coordinator at the email address given below, quoting vacancy reference
