Postdoctoral Research Associate in Inorganic Materials Chemistry

Applications are invited for a Postdoctoral Research Associate in Inorganic Materials Chemistry to work under the supervision of Professor Ludmilla Steier for a period of up to 36 months. The project

Towards Efficient Solar Fuel Production with Hybrid Polymer-Inorganic Photocatalysts

involves developing and optimizing polymer- and inorganic-based photocatalytic systems for CO2 photohydrogenation and hydrogen evolution with a particular focus on the design and understanding of their surfaces when modified with single atom, atomic cluster- or nanoparticle co-catalysts. The project is funded by the Royal Society but aims to develop a partnership with the South Korean Partner Institution Kyungpook National University (KNU), leveraging state-of-the-art facilities and methodologies at both institutions in a multidisciplinary environment.

About the role Applicants must hold a PhD (or be close to completion) in Chemistry, Physics, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering or a related area prior to taking up the appointment. We are seeking a motivated, enthusiastic, organised self-starter; who can work with a minimum of supervision but at the same time extract the benefits of an excellent research environment. The project requires expertise in atomic layer deposition and catalysis ideally with experience in single-atom and atomic cluster deposition and advanced characterisation as well as in photocatalysis. You will be expected to manage your own academic research and administrative activities. This involves small scale project management, to co-ordinate multiple aspects of work to meet deadlines. The post will be based in the Department of Chemistry, working in the Physical & Theoretical Laboratory, South Parks Road, Oxford OX1 3QZ and is available as soon as possible.

Application Process Applications for this vacancy are to be made online and you will be required to upload a supporting statement and CV as part of your application. In your supporting statement (

Certificates, reference letters and research papers should not be provided at this stage. The closing date for applications is 12.00 midday, Friday, 10 January 2025, UK time. Interviews will be held as soon as possible thereafter. The University of Oxford and The Department of Chemistry are Silver Athena SWAN holders. Applications are particularly welcome from women and black and ethnic minority candidates, who are under-represented in Chemistry research posts in Oxford.
