R&D Local Unit Lead

Your role and responsibilities

In this role, you will have the opportunity to contribute to ABB's success with technology, software, product, and system development. Each day, you will identify and implement innovative solutions to relevant problems. You will also showcase your expertise by providing ideas and by being able to work both independently and as a part of a Research & Development (R&D) team. The work model for the role is: #LI-Hybrid You will be mainly accountable for:

Designing, analyzing and documenting new/existing products. Creating electrical model of power semiconductor. Simulating power electronic circuit breaker for a variety of applications. Selecting components and engaging suppliers for technical requirements and feasibility of identified solutions. Supporting the design of cooling system including estimation of losses and efficiency. Designing and simulation of gate driver design. Maintaining documentation of all designs. Collaborating with engineers to perform cross-functional tasks as control, testing, layout, etc. Performing hands on testing of new/existing products. Troubleshooting new/existing products. Building and testing simulation models, hardware demonstrators, test assemblies, running experiments, and recording test data. Analyzing test data and optimizing the solutions. Preparing internal and external technical reports.

Qualifications for the role

You are highly skilled with standard PCB design software packages (Altium Designer...). Proficiency in using digital oscilloscopes and other laboratory measurement equipment like spectrum analyzers, vector network analyzers, impedance analyzers, etc. Familiarity with MATLAB, Python (NumPy), or similar numerical calculation tools. Experience with SPICE-based simulation tools and function simulation tools such as LTspice, PLECS, Simulink, etc. Experience in low voltage power conversion industries and DC application. Ability to demonstrate your experience in designing, building, and testing prototype converters, demonstrating expertise in component placement for insulation voltage, cooling, signal integrity, and EMC considerations. Possess an enhanced knowledge in design and analysis of power conversion topologies. Familiar with power semiconductors (modules and discrete) technologies and with thermal and electrical simulation tools (Ansys Maxwell/Icepak, SIMetrix, PLECS, Matlab/Simulink...). You are passionate about communication, team working and you possess a positive attitude. MS/PhD in Electrical/Electronic Engineering in the field of Power Electronics and power converted design. You are at ease communicating in Italian and English.
