It is well documented within professional education theory that nurses learn best through experiential methods of seeing and doing which is most effectively achieved within the clinical environment. The Practice Development Nurses will provide the linchpin to bridge the theory to practice gap with a focus on conditions and pathway led care specific to the specialty in which they work.
The Practice Development Nurse would provide education and training within the specialty whereby they have demonstrated clinical credibility. As a Practice Development Nurse, successful candidates would provide support to all learners.
Main duties of the job
The Practice Development Nurse will be attached to Kestrel Ward, providing education, training and support to the nursing workforce.
The diversity of the role means that you will deliver teaching sessions, provide clinical support within the ward environment, facilitate forums, formulate action plans and devise new teaching sessions as required. You will have both a responsive and proactive approach to education and training ensuring that the content of our sessions is sensitive to current risks within the ward/department.
You will support in the education and training requirements of all learners and the delivery of quality improvement initiatives. You will collaborate with the corporate Practice Development Nurses and Clinical Training Teams. You will work in conjunction with the wider Practice Development Nurses to benchmark and quality assure the service.
You will support new starters to achieve competency with clinical skills specific to specialty, whilst driving best practice of skill acquisition. Protected time will be given to ensure that the post holders have the opportunity to continuously maintain their own clinical competence.
