We are a friendly, innovative, mutually supportive, and progressive practice looking to recruit a Practice Nurse to join our existing team. We can be flexible in relation to hours for the right candidate and would be prepared to offer scope for career development within the role.

PMS list: approximately 10,800 patients

7 GP Partners, 1 Salaried GP, 2 Physician Associates, and 1 Advanced Clinical Practitioner

We have 2 surgeries within the Barnsley Central area

We are committed to high standards of clinical care, providing additional services and success in QOF achievement

We provide nurse-led minor illness clinic and chronic disease clinics

We are a training practice

We are seeking a friendly and motivated team player and would consider either part-time/full-time hours.

Experience of COPD/asthma would be beneficial. The post will include chronic disease reviews, smear taking, women's health, child health surveillance and immunisations, phlebotomy, etc. We will provide training for the right candidate, and job share would be considered. Salary will be dependent on experience.

About us We are a large established training practice with a Nursing/HCA team of 2 Nurses and 2 HCAs.

The surgeries are located centrally and easy to get to from the M1 and surrounding areas.

Our main site at Worsbrough is a purpose-built 'LIFT' building and our branch surgery at Gold Street is a purpose-built privately owned surgery.

Job responsibilities To work within a multi-disciplinary clinical nurse team ensuring the provision of high standards of quality nursing service to the practice population. Undertake training and development as required within the role.

Principal Responsibilities Nursing

To be responsible for the provision of the following nurse-led clinics, as needed (after undertaking any necessary training/updates):

Respiratory & Cardiovascular Clinic

Flu clinic

Diabetic Clinic

Baby clinic

Cytology

Venepuncture

To ensure all staff members understand the format for accepting appointments.

Management of emergencies e.g. anaphylactic shock, cardiac arrest, and first aid.

To liaise with colleagues to ensure there is appropriate nursing cover for all services provided by the nursing team.

Administration

To attend meetings as required, contribute to discussions and ensure that any follow-up action is implemented.

To attend clinical meetings with the nursing team, contributing to the agenda and discussions as appropriate.

To attend annual appraisal.

Work in line with practice policies and procedures to maintain standards and working practices.

To ensure the maintenance of appropriate medical records, schedules, and item of service claims.

Disease Management

The post holder will be expected to be responsible for the following:

Maintenance of Chronic Disease Management

Health Promotional Activities

To give appropriate advice to the practice population promoting healthy lifestyles.

To ensure that Health Promotional Literature is available in the Practice.

General Nursing Duties

Liaise with Lead Practice Nurse/Business Manager regarding the maintenance and supply of equipment and medical sundries.

Vaccination and immunisation of patients as per practice protocol.

Venepuncture.

Safe disposal of contaminated waste/sharps.

Management of emergency anaphylactic shock, cardiac arrest, first aid.

Maintenance of appropriate medical records and schedules.

Assist with minor surgical procedures.

Wound care, dressings, removal of sutures.

First aid for minor accidents.

Perform ECG.

New patient medical checks.

Family Planning advice.

Other nursing duties as necessary, but working in accordance with the UKCC Code of Conduct, Standards for Records and Record Keeping, Exercising Accountability, Standards for the Administration of Medicines and Guidelines for Professional Practice.

Professional Responsibility

The post holder will be expected to work unsupervised and to use initiative in the role of the Practice Nurse.

The post holder will be required to undertake training, statements of competence or gain the equivalent level of skill acquired through experience in order to fulfil their PREP requirements and maintain professional development.

Broader Responsibilities

When necessary to act as a representative of the practice and to carry out the above duties in a responsible and respectable fashion at all times, particularly as the way the practice is managed may be occasionally taken to reflect the standard of care provided.

Driving licence and car owner.

Any other duties appropriate to the grading of the post.

This job description will be amended in the light of developments within the practice; however, any changes will be discussed with the post holder.
