The ideal candidate will need to be NMC registered and will carry out all aspects of general nursing including but not limited to: Childhood immunisations Cervical cytology Contraceptive & HRT reviews Chronic Disease Management Immunisations including travel health care Removal of sutures/clips Venepuncture Chaperoning and assisting patients where appropriate who are being examined by another clinician Requesting pathology tests, for example urine culture, swabs Recognise and manage anaphylaxis according to UK guidelines Perform CPR according to UK guidelines About us

Pen Y Cae Surgery is a well-established practice founded in 2005 and is situated on the edge of the Brecon Beacons National Park in Blaenau Gwent, the birthplace of our NHS. We are an accredited GP training practice and established teaching practice for medical students from Cardiff Medical School. We offer a happy workplace where we operate in a supportive team we actually don’t mind coming to work! Our GP team is made up of 3.75 WTE with 7 Partners and 2 salaried GPs looking after 9000+ patients. Our GPs are fully supported by an exceptional nursing team comprising of a Practice Nurse, 2 Health Care Assistants and 2 phlebotomists as well as a practice-based pharmacist, an excellent management and admin team who focus on supporting patients and clinicians. We are dynamic, progressive, friendly and supportive practice who pride ourselves on high quality patient centred care and our involvement with our local neighbourhood care network. Job responsibilities

Job Responsibilities: Assist in and perform routine tasks related to patient care as directed by senior nursing staff and GPs Cytology Contraceptive and HRT reviews Venepuncture Removal of Sutures Travel Clinic ECGs Asthma/Peak Flow Readings/Spirometry Chronic Disease Management Health promotion Routine immunisations/Childhood immunisations Requesting pathology tests, for example urine culture, swabs Assisting with the fitting of IUCD / IUS & Minor Ops Following agreed clinical protocols with referral to senior nurses or GPs as appropriate Recognising and reporting deterioration of patients both urgent and non-urgent Provide support to the HCAs and phlebotomists Providing support to the reception team with urgent patients Ensuring emergency equipment is correct Responding to emergency situations within the practice Other tasks will include: Maintaining and cleaning equipment used by the nurses and GPs Maintaining GP and Nurses rooms, stocking and rotating items as required Ensuring emergency equipment is correct Chaperoning and assisting patients who are being examined by another clinician. Maintain general tidiness and cleanliness of nurses and treatment rooms Ordering of Health Promotion Literature Order/Control of stock from the Local Hospital Ordering of vaccinations to maintain stock levels A duty to advise senior staff of potential problems or errors within the range of assigned tasks On occasion there may be a requirement to undertake home visits Any other delegated duties appropriate to the post Administration and professional responsibilities Recognise and work within own competence and professional code of conduct as regulated by the NMC Participate in the administrative and professional responsibilities of the practice team Ensure accurate and legible notes of all consultations and treatments are recorded in the patients notes Ensure the clinical computer system is kept up to date, with accurate details recorded Ensure appropriate items of service claims are made accurately, reporting any problems to the practice manager Ensure accurate completion of all necessary documentation associated with patient health care and registration with the practice Ensure collection and maintenance of statistical information required for regular and ad hoc reports and audit Attend and participate in practice meetings as required Confidentiality: In the course of seeking treatment, patients entrust us with, or allow us to gather, sensitive information in relation to their health and other matters.
