MAINDUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES ClinicalGovernance To develop and take an active role in qualitymonitoring of the service, including leading of research projects and auditactivity with the aim of improving the service/service area. Partnership with service users and carers isintegral to these activities. The Post Holder will be able to evaluate andreview research and other relevant literature and beware of the implications ofthe social and local policies, procedures and information packages related toservice delivery. Will have the abilityto work under pressure and manage staff and services Managementand Leadership The Post Holder will act as a role model forRETHINK staff, which will involve providing support and guidance to RETHINKstaff in order to maximise the experience of clients whilst they are staying atFieldview. The Post Holder will work within an environmentthat involves taking responsibility for the use of a significant number ofresources, including four crisis beds, access to in-patient services,processing of referrals and allocation of activity to achieve rapid response tocrisis referrals. Will plan and organise workloads for staffwithin the area to include allocation of staff, planning patient care andgroups etc. The Post Holder will supervise the day to daycare of their service area, including Crisis, Police, Acute Mental Health, HomeTreatment and Specialist Care ensuring staff are designated to appropriateareas. To also be involved in the recruitmentand selection of staff along with appraisals and supervision. Educationand Development Acute Mental Health is a learning environmentwhich accepts short-term placements, any qualified practitioners and a widevariety of other agencies, wishing to gain an insight into the Mental HealthServices. There is an expectation that the Post Holderwill be involved in the provision of internal training sessions andpresentations to other services and students. The Post Holder may be asked to provide specifictraining or mentorship to students. The Acute Mental Health Team is a developingservice and team members are expected to become actively involved in the changeprocess and demonstrate commitment to changing role, ie in the development ofspecialist protocols and specialised programmes of care. Team members will provide continuousdevelopment and evaluation of patient information packages to the service. Individuals within the team will provideteaching and education to services users and carers with regard to living withmental ill health, and how to access service providers. This will involve working closely with othercare providers, including relatives in a constructive manner using education,advice and support. The Post Holder will be expected to organiseand manage their own clinical supervision, and supervise peer, within Navigoagreed guidelines. ClinicalPatient Care Duties and Responsibilities To provide high quality care in either thehome, Fieldview or hospital setting.Clients referred to the service will usually have complex needs andproblems. Families/carers will also needappropriate support and there will be regular liaison/referral to otheragencies. This will require capabilityin the following areas: 1.Tomaintain accurate records, both written and computerised to a standard thatreflects their level of clinical expertise.This may involve the use of specialised psychometric tools to complementthe assessment and evaluation of client care. 2.ThePost Holder must have experience of using psychosocial interventions inclinical practice. 3.Liaisonwith community based services and resources such as education, Social Security,employment, housing, Police and voluntary sector organisations to facilitatethe delivery of the most appropriate and best possible care for the individualclient, carers and their families. 4.Discusscomplex issues surrounding risk management and plan care accordingly advisingothers regarding management of care. 6.Torespond to client crisis in a positive pro-active manner. 7.Todevelop clear care pathways, including methods to reduce the risk of furthercrisis developing. 8.Towork in a manner which is flexible according to client need. 9.Toprovide telephone support to any clients, carers, outside agencies orclinicians who require information, advice or crisis intervention. This will require the Post Holder to makeimmediate, effective decisions that will have implications for the outcomes ofthe clients mental health. 10.Beable to assess complex mental health conditions, then to develop and implementcare packages in a variety of settings. 11.Ifrequired (or at their request) undertake Mental Health Act Training (AMHPs) andif qualified take part in the rota. 12.Toassess adolescents out of hours and refer to appropriate services. 13.Toassess if required in the Police Station. 14.Tobe part of the on-call rota. To cover 7 days a week, 24 hours a day on arota. Scope andPractice The Post Holder will be expected to takeresponsibility for a number of tasks including: 1.Processreferrals prioritise, risk management, risk assessment of clients who are incrisis and may be displaying high risk behaviours. 2.ThePost Holder will be the first line contact for all mental health at all timesto the general Trust and primary care (in times of crisis). 3.ThePost Holder will be responsible for defining the level of acute mental healthcrisis and the use of resources. Thisincludes the decision to admit a person to either the acute in patient beds, orFieldview beds, processing of general practitioner referrals and urgent CMHTreferrals. 4.ThePost Holder will have to have an understanding of the relevant policies andtheir application to related face to face physical aggression and associatedactions, eg COSHH, Infection Control, exposure to body fluids. Exposure to both verbal and physicalaggression. 5.ThePost Holder will be expected to professionally contribute and/or lead andmanage serious untoward incidents, challenging behaviours, ensuring all partiesare de briefed and supported. 6.Thepost holder will be expected to be involved in and implement new and revisedpolicies within their own sphere of work. 7.Willoffer clinical supervision to staff from own discipline.
