We are looking to recruit a dynamic nurse with excellent clinical nursing skills, to deliver a high-quality service to patients attending the Pre-operative Assessment unit at RGH - Royal Gwent Hospital. This exciting developmental post offers an opportunity to become an important part of a specialised field of nursing that is different, challenging, yet also extremely satisfying. The successful candidate will be welcomed by our friendly team and supported to undertake a competency framework that will enable them to fulfil the role of a band 5 Pre-assessment nurse initially, before progressing their skills to become a band 6 Pre-assessment nurse. This will include completion of the Clinical Patient Assessment Module. The successful applicant will be a motivated and enthusiastic individual with significant post-registration clinical experience. Applicants will need to have a clear understanding of nursing quality and be able to assure excellence in clinical care. Applicants must have the relevant experience and knowledge of care delivery appropriate to this patient group, be creative, enthusiastic, motivated and have excellent communication skills. The ability to work collaboratively with all members of the multi-disciplinary team is essential. Main duties of the job

The post holder will be based within Aneurin Bevan Health Board and this post primarily involves supporting ABUHB patients through the Pre-assessment process so that they can be successfully admitted on their admission date for surgery, advising and imparting sometimes sensitive information to patients' relatives and carers. To be responsible for the Pre-Operative Assessment of patients to a high standard, ensuring patients are case managed and prepared in a safe and timely manner without direct supervision. Working collaboratively with the unit lead and co-operatively with other Health Professionals to provide the highest standard of care, safety and service to patients and their relatives. This will involve complex diagnostic/pathological investigations/review. The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply. Responsible for the development and implementation of the nurse practitioner-led preoperative assessment service. Working with the Clinical Director and multi-disciplinary team to support a clinical environment that is patient and public focused. To plan the provision of care for patients in the Pre-Operative setting. To contribute to the Pre-Operative Assessment of patients to a high standard, ensuring patients are case managed and prepared in a safe and timely manner without direct supervision. Working collaboratively with the unit lead and co-operatively with other Health Professionals to provide the highest standard of care, safety and service to patients and their relatives. Develop clinical guidelines and protocols for screening of patients, liaising with the Clinicians and with other appropriate Directorates within the Health Board. The post holder will also be asked to contribute to the smooth running of the unit, developing management and organisational skills.
