Pre Op Assessment Nurse

·
Full time
Are you committed to delivering excellent patient care and have excellent communication skills? We need a practitioner who can work autonomously and uses their own initiative to get it right for patients - if this sounds like you then we would love to hear from you.

Due to the expansion of our surgical service here at Lancashire Teaching Hospitals, we are seeking a qualified nurse who enjoys working in a dynamic and challenging environment and yet remains focused on caring for patients on the surgical pathway.

As the service expands, we will be looking to work 6 days a week, and as a pre-op nurse, you will be required to manage your own workload, refer patients to the anaesthetic clinics, and liaise with other services if needed. Experience in pre-operative assessment is desired but not essential as a full training package will be delivered.

Main duties of the job

Lancashire Teaching Hospitals provides central pre-op services on two sites covering a range of expanding specialties. Our service enables patients to fully prepare for their forthcoming surgery and is an essential part in ensuring efficient patient flow across the hospital throughout the patient's surgical journey.

This is an opportunity to use and develop your physical assessment skills preparing patients for major complex surgery. You will have the opportunity to work closely with the dedicated anaesthetic team and autonomously in the nurse-led pre-operative assessment clinic. You will be involved with enhanced recovery pathways for complex surgery.

Job responsibilities

Assess, plan, implement and evaluate care to meet patients' needs in accordance with agreed local/national standards and evidence-based guidelines. Develop and continually update clinical skills in line with Local and National standards and recommendations for practice. Adhere to policies and procedures and adapt to evidence-based changes to practice. Take responsibility for running your own clinic, completing medical history, giving medication advice, liaising with the multidisciplinary team, and acting upon abnormal pathology results. Support and provide patient education and health promotion. Be responsible for the delivery and coordination of care, through appropriate professional practice, delegation, and supervision of duties carried out by junior staff. Ensure the environment is safe, well equipped, and compliant with standards for hygiene and cleanliness. Proactively manage risk and maintain patient safety, conforming to health, safety, and security legislation, policies, procedures, and guidelines.
