We are seeking a motivated and experienced staff nurse to join our team. We provide detailed medical and nursing assessment for elective, day case, surgical inpatients. The successful candidate will have an interest in peri-operative care and be able to thrive in a busy area with many time pressures and deadlines. However, this post also provides a great deal of job satisfaction and a chance to provide one-on-one patient care. Working unsupervised holds pre-operative assessment clinics to plan the patient's stay in hospital and ensure appropriate selection of in-patient and day surgery. Carries out those activities involved when conducting the comprehensive assessment of patient's requirements, using guidelines, knowledge and experience to provide comprehensive preparation for elective surgery. Assesses medical, social and psychological needs of the patient, devises solutions if appropriate or refers directly to other health professionals. Identify any anaesthetic risk factors and refer to the anaesthetists as appropriate. Main Duties of the Job

Requests or performs relevant medical tests according to criteria. Overviews the results and on own judgement refers to anaesthetist or acts on as necessary. Identify any factors which may delay discharge and act on or refer as appropriate. Confirm and record patient details appropriately, entering data accurately on the relevant computer system when required. Directly communicates and liaises with medical staff to resolve any identified issues related to the patient's admission for surgery. Liaises with the Booking Office and Ward Staff to ensure smooth admission processes and identification of specific needs and requirements. Confirm admission details and provide both verbal and written information/advice. Gives the patient opportunity to ask questions. Liaise with GPs and Practice Nurses as necessary (i.e., requesting further information or blood pressure checks). Maintain absolute confidentiality in respect of all medical and nursing records. Obtain and develop additional skills that may be required for example phlebotomy, ECG recording and interpretation, developing new nurse-led roles. Works within the local practices of each site of the service. Maintains a team approach to the service at all times. Acts at all times in accordance with the Nursing and Midwifery Council Code of Conduct and Scope of Professional practice.
