What you need to know about the role

Primary supports the Basic Oxygen Plant, delivers raw materials and scrap as well as iron refining for the manufacturing of Steel. Scope of work includes fans, pumps, gear boxes & bearings, various valves, hydraulics, pneumatics and materials handling equipment.

Working as a Primary Team Leader you will be responsible for supervising British Steel craft and contractor resource to ensure safe and effective maintenance of equipment.

Reporting to the Maintenance Engineer for the area and working alongside other multi-disciplined Team Leaders, you will provide front line supervision, technical advice, planning, reporting and will be expected to lead and motivate the team to achieve the desired plan.

You will maintain and where possible raise the benchmark for engineering standards in the area and will lead and develop the craft team to ensure a high standard of maintenance is achieved in a safe efficient manner. You will also be expected to liaise with the Maintenance Engineer and customers in order to improve maintenance strategy.

What we need to know about you

To be considered for this position you must be qualified to a minimum NVQ Level 3, or equivalent in a relevant mechanical trade or have served a recognised apprenticeship.

Ideally you will have experience of mechanical maintenance and fault finding within a commercial or heavy engineering environment. Essential to the role is the ability to adapt to new equipment. You must be flexible, have a desire to learn and develop.

Knowledge of steelmaking and engineering supervision would be beneficial but is not essential, as extensive training will be provided.
