NHS Scotland is committed to encouraging equality and diversity among our workforce and eliminating unlawful discrimination. The aim is for our workforce to be truly representative and for each employee to feel respected and able to give their best. To this end, NHS Scotland welcomes applications from all sections of society. An exciting opportunity for the role of a Primary Mental Health Worker has arisen in its base in the West area. The main base is in Fort William, with duties also covering some schools within the West Area including Lochaber, Skye and Lochalsh. The main emphasis of primary mental health work with children and young people is to enable community and primary care-based professionals to effectively recognise children and young people’s strengths and difficulties. Primary mental health work can be delivered as either a universal or targeted provision, according to the needs of the local population. The Primary Mental Health Worker (PMHW) will act as a locality cross-agency networker, providing early stage mental health assessment and interventions through liaison, consultation, supervision and training to primary care professionals. The PMHW will also provide direct clinical input to children, young people, and their families where this is indicated. This approach will build on, and further enhance the skills and resources of local community and specialist services, thereby creating a more integrated and coordinated service that will respond more effectively to the needs of the local population.
