What to Expect We are recruiting for a Principal Aerothermal Engineer to join our fantastic Design Engineering department in Woking. As the Principal Aerothermal Engineer, you will be responsible for the vehicle aerodynamics and powertrain cooling systems for all vehicle programmes. Managing the use of 1D simulation, CFD, scale wind tunnel, and track side testing methods to investigate concepts and complete design validation against programme targets. You will also apply continuous improvement methods, provide leadership to maintain our expert lead in vehicle aerodynamics, support the development of our team, testing methodologies, design tool correlation, research roadmaps, all to aid simultaneous model-based engineering of our highly-integrated sports cars. Occasional travel for this role will also be required. What You'll Do Leading all programmes for vehicle aerodynamics and powertrain cooling systems, from system technical specification to programme sign-off, meeting all performance, timing, and investment targets. Managing the use of 1D simulation, CFD, scale wind tunnel, and track side testing methods to develop the vehicles' aerothermal attributes, to meet programme targets for powertrain cooling systems, downforce, drag, airflow through radiators, brake ducts, and HVAC ducting. Communicating system design progress and critical issues to vehicle line Directors and Chief Engineers, chairing Attribute and Design Reviews to ensure targets are met. Ownership of Aerothermal DVP, defining POC and validation mule specifications, investment profiles, working in continual collaboration with Vehicle Development to ensure delivery of all DVP activities. Subject matter expert for fluid dynamics at McLaren Automotive, providing leadership in external aerodynamics, ducted cooling flows (radiators, brake cooling), engine air-induction and exhaust flow, powertrain and hybrid component cooling (high voltage battery, electric motors, power electronics). Managing all research activities on aerodynamic and powertrain cooling technology roadmaps, collaborating with Advanced Engineering and external universities to ensure alignment of timing and investment with pre-G0, product specification and target setting. Supporting with the recruitment and technical development of Aerothermal team members.
